Set during the 17th century England during the civil war, A Field in England tells the story of a small group of deserters who flee from an especially gruesome battle through an overgrown field. There, they encounter an Alchemist who forces them on a treasure hunt for gold, rumored to be buried under the field – but not before making them eat some hallucinogenic mushrooms…
Director Ben Wheatley made the critically-lauded hitman thriller , which propelled the director to the front line of British filmmakers. His subsequent directing effort, the black serial killer comedy Sightseers, was equally genre bending.
