Disney revisits a classic - this time from the perspective of the Prince
Cinderalla is a reinterpretation of the fairy-tale standard, which centers on the Prince (played by Game of Thrones' King of the North, Richard Madden) rather than the Princess. Facing a politically advantageous arranged marriage, the romantic hero threatens his family's greedy plan when he meets and falls in love with everyone's favorite scullery maid, Cinderella. Downton Abbey Brit actress Lily James has been cast as the eponymous heroine while Cate Blanchett takes on the iconic villainous role of Cinderella's evil stepmother.
Director Mark Romanek, whose previous credits include such dramatic fare as 2010's Never Let Me Go and the 2002 thriller One Hour Photo, was set to direct this timeless tale. The filmmaker clashed with Disney over his darker vision of Cinderella and departed. But fear not: British Shakespeare stalwart Kenneth Branagh should be able to fill Romanek's shoes perfectly. Screenwriter Chris Weitz, who's responsible for the snappy dialogue in the family comedy About A Boy as well as the sweeping fantasy adaptation The Golden Compass, will no doubt bring a unique style to Cinderalla as well.
