Judi Dench and Steve Coogan star in family drama about stolen child
Philomena revolves around an Irish woman (Judi Dench) who on becoming pregnant, was sent to a convent to be looked after as a 'fallen woman' and whose baby was taken without her consent and 'sold' to America for adoption. Years later, Lee decides to track down her son - at any cost.
The heartwrenching drama is based on the painful real life story from Martin Sixsmith's 2009 book, The Lost Child of Philomena Lee and was adapted from the novel by Alan Partridge comedian Steve Coogan, who also stars in Philomena as a journalist who helps Dench with her search.
Legendary British filmmaker Stephen Frears (Dirty Pretty Things, Oscar-winning The Queen, Mrs Henderson Presents) is helming the production.
