Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer.
Denzel Washington stars in this feature film adaptation of the popular 1980s TV series The Equalizer. The action thriller follows a former black-ops government agent who seeks atonement for his past violent deeds by helping people in trouble. When he saves a young girl (played by Chloe Grace Moretz) he finds himself face to face with the Russian mob.
The cult TV series The Equalizer ran on CBS between 1985 and 1989. It starred Edward Woodford who gave a stellar performance as the badass ex-agent. Luckily, the movie version boasts the one Hollywood star with more badass credentials than any other living actor: Denzel Washington.
The road to the movie adaptation of The Equalizer was long. Several high-profile directors such as Nicolas Winding Refn (Only God Forgives) and Rupert Wyatt (The Gambler) were attached to the project before jumping ship. Finally Antoine Fuqua signed on, making The Equalizer his second collaboration with Washington after Training Day. The latter won the actor his first Academy Award in the Best Actor category.
