The Gambler

Mark Wahlberg is a gambling addict in a lot of trouble in classy crime drama

The Gambler marks a remake of the 1974 crime drama of the same name. The James Toback-scripted movie told the story of a literature professor whose gambling addiction causes huge problems with his girlfriend and – more importantly – a bunch of gangsters.

Mark Wahlberg will star in the title role which was played by James Caan in the original.

Todd Phillips of Road Trip, Old School and The Hangover fame was set to direct The Gambler after Martin Scorsese left the project. But Phillips departed the movie likewise, with Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt finally taking over.

William Monahan wrote the screenplay based the 1974 film which itself is loosely on the Fyodor Dostoyevsky story of the same name.
