The Long Red Road

Tom Hardy returns to his theater roots with this dark play adaptation

Brett C. Leonard's moving play The Long Red Road, which premiered in Chicago in 2010 under the direction of Philip Seymour Hoffman, is being adapted to the big screen. Tom Hardy, who starred as protagonist Sam in the play, will reprise his role for the film version. The dark theater piece centers on Sam's decision to flee civilization and drink himself to death on a remote Indian reservation in South Dakota. This plan is derailed when his young daughter turns up looking to reunite with her father. Michael Shannon (, ) will star as Sam's older brother Bob, who is involved in Sam's difficult past.

No word yet whether Hoffman will also direct the film adaptation.
