Cersei Lannister: A Brief History

The oldest child of Tywin and Joanna Lannister — by a few minutes, anyway — Cersei was always meant to be queen. At least, that's what Maggy the Frog told her when she was just a little girl:

"Queen you shall be...until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear."

While Cersei seemed under the impression that Margaery Tyrell was this prophesied nubile nemesis, we know it's really , who's on her way to cast Cersei down right this very minute. Now, Cersei will have to go up against the mother of dragons at some point in the future — that is, if the second half of Maggy's prophesy doesn't come true first.

When she was a child, Tywin intended to offer Cersei to Rhaegar Targaryen as a bride. Cersei was infatuated with the handsome prince after seeing him at a tourney, but the Targaryens turned down the Lannisters' offer. Since he had no sister to marry, Rhaegar married Elia Martell instead, although he also fell in love with — and might have married — Lyanna Stark. No wonder she got so pissed when Robert said Lyanna's name in bed...

Cersei's only redeeming quality, her love for her children, is in short supply now that she's run out of kids. Will her love and kindness extend to her brother/lover Jaime? Or is she destined to grow more and more ruthless as Season 7 goes on?
