‘The Conjuring’ Plot
Set in 1970, Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) are summoned to the home of Carolyn (Lili Taylor) and Roger Perron (Ron Livingston). The Perron family and their five daughters have recently moved into a secluded farmhouse, where a supernatural presence has made itself known. As the unknown presence grows stronger, its intentions become more sinister. As the Warrens investigate, they discover the house’s macabre history — and a possessed doll, #Annabelle, torments the Warren’s personal life.
‘The Conjuring’ Box Office & Release
Released on July 19, 2013, The Conjuring smashed box office expectations by grossing $41 million during its opening weekend. By the end of its run, the film grossed $137 million domestically and $180 in the foreign market, giving it a total haul of $318 million on a $20 million budget.
The film received an 86 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘The Conjuring 2’ Plot
Set seven years after the events of the first film, The Warrens come out of a self-imposed sabbatical following their traumatizing experience at the Amityville house, and travel to Enfield, England. There, they meet Peggy Hodgson (Frances O’Connor), a single mother of four who tells the couple that there is something evil in her home.
Ed and Lorraine believe her story when the youngest daughter, Janet (Madison Wolfe), shows signs of demonic possession. As they dig further into the case, the Warrens become the next targets of a malicious spirit, The Nun.
Director James Wan returned to helm the sequel, while Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprised their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren.
‘The Conjuring 2’ Box Office & Release
Released on June 10, 2016, The Conjuring 2 nearly matched its predecessor’s opening weekend box office by grossing $40 million during the first three days. By the end of its run, the film grossed $102 million domestically and $217 million in the foreign market, giving it a total haul of $320 million on a $40 million budget.
The film received an 8 percent% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes — a rather high rating for a horror sequel. The Conjuring 2 hit DVD and Blu-ray September 13, 2016.
‘The Conjuring 3’ & Other Spin-Offs
The world of The Conjuring universe is growing quite rapidly. The possessed doll, Annabelle, introduced in the first film, received her own spin-off movie in 2014. The movie grossed over $250 million at the global box office, and the prequel origin story, #AnnabelleCreation, is set for release August 2017.
Also receiving a spin-off is #TheNun. Introduced in The Conjuring 2, The Nun is in production and set for a 2018 release.
No official green light has been ordered for The Conjuring 3; however, according to box office reception, it is safe to estimate a tentative sequel for 2019.
