We'll never stop routing for our all-time favorite TV show couples, even when they were most definitely on a break. Sometimes, us fans get ahead of ourselves by hoping the actors will continue their love story off-screen.
While that does tend to happen on occasion, more often than not the actors end up with someone else. Let's take a look at the couples that found their happily ever after with the "other one".
1. F.R.I.E.N.D.S.: Rachel Green & Ross Gellar
Rachel and Ross had a 10-season long on-and-off-and-on-a-break-and-on-and-off-and-pregnant-and-off-and-on relationship that will never be forgotten.
Jennifer Aniston, who was married to Brad Pitt while filming, is now married to Justin Theroux. David Schwimmer shares 5-year-old daughter Cleo Buckman with his wife, artist Zoë Buckman.
2. The O.C.: Summer Roberts & Seth Cohen
Seth was in love with Summer since he was a kid, regardless of whether she noticed his existence. Their love eventually blossomed on and off set, which couldn't have made fans more happy.
They are no longer together, but Adam Brody fulfilled a CW dream by marrying Leighton Meester (who basically played the Summer Roberts counterpart, Blair Waldorf, in Gossip Girl). They have a daughter named Arlo Day born in August 2015. Rachel Bilson married Hayden Christensen, with whom she also has a daughter, Briar Rose, born in October 2014.
3. Sex & The City: Carrie Bradshaw & Mr. Big
One of the most romantic unhealthy relationships in television history, even Aidan fans must admit there was a special spark between the two. You know it's good when you're routing for the bad.
The Sex & The City protagonist Sarah Jessica Parker married actor Matthew Broderick with whom she has a son and twin daughters. Meanwhile, Chris Noth married Canadian actress Tara Lynn Wilson and the couple have an 8-year old son, Orion Christopher Noth.
4. Gilmore Girls: Rory Gilmore & Dean Forester
With the Gilmore Girls revival coming up, we might see this couple reunite. You may be team Logan or team Jess, because they're honestly all great. However, you can't argue that Dean was Rory's first true love, and you never forget your first.
Alexis Bledel is married to actor Vincent Kartheiser with whom she recently revealed their secret son who was born in October 2015. Jared Padalecki, on the other hand, has two sons with his wife Genevieve Cortese. Both couples met while appearing on screen together, Bledel on Mad Men and Jared on Supernatural.
5. The Nanny: Fran Fine & Maxwell Sheffield
We all knew about the nanny's fantasies for her boss, Mr. Sheffield. However, this couple strung us along for far too many seasons before finally sealing the deal. We thought it'd never happen!
Francine Drescher is currently married to scientist Shiva Ayyadurai, while Charles Shaughnessy shares two daughter with actress Susan Fallender. Hopefully, no one falls in love with The Nanny.
6. Gossip Girl: Serena van der Woodsen & Dan Humphrey
While the couple has pulled some unforgivable stunts to one another on Gossip Girl, they set another example of a CW couple on and off set. Penn Badgley and Blake Lively were both together – and then broken up – while filming Gossip Girl.
Most fans have moved on from this relationship, however, since Lively couldn't be any cuter with her husband Ryan Reynolds as they await the birth of their second child. Badgley is usually private and makes few public appearances, but he has also moved on with singer Domino Kirke.
7. Scandal: Olivia Pope & President Fitz Grant
As much as we loved this couple, Scandal fans are confused about whether they should switch over to team Jake. This couple has embodied far too many types of forbidden love. Even when they've surpassed all obstacles, they still find a way not to be together.
Tony Goldwyn has been married to production designer Jane Michelle Musky since 1987; they have two daughters together. Kerry Washington on the other hand, has a 2-year-old daughter with husband and former NFL cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.
8. New Girl: Jess Day & Nick Miller
The New Girl roommates may just be the most awkward on-screen couple, which is exactly why we love them. They're both just weird enough that being together seems perfectly normal.
In real life, Zooey has a baby girl named Elsie Otter with husband and film producer Jacob Pechenik. Jake Johnson has 2-year-old twin daughters with his wife, artist Erin Payne.
9. One Tree Hill: Peyton Sawyer & Lucas Scott
There was a moment there when we were routing for Brucas (how could we not with their on-screen romance and off-screen marriage?) but then we remembered Lucas was meant to be with Peyton since the Comet.
Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush divorced while OTH was still on the air, which paved the way for his current wife, actress Sarah Roemer. Hilarie Burton has a 6-year-old son named Augustus with actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
10. How I Met Your Mother: Robin Scherbatsky & Barney Stinson
A perfect example of two dysfunctional and supposedly heartless human beings who can be extremely compatible. Sure, they may not have been soulmates, but their love was real. "The Robin," anyone?
This on-screen couple never had a shot in real life. Neil Patrick Harris swings the other way and is happily married to David Burtka with two children. The Canadian actress, Cobie Smulders, is married to actor Taran Killam with whom she has a 7-year-old daughter named Shaelyn Cado.
11. Modern Family: Gloria Delgado-Pritchett & Jay Pritchett
This couple certainly has fire and passion as they spend most of their time fighting. They're used to being judged based on their age difference, but ultimately, nothing can get in the way of this marriage.
Well, except for their real marriages, maybe. Ed O'Neill has two daughters with his wife and actress Catherine Rusoff. Sofía Vergara and True Blood actor Joe Manganiello have been married for about a year, adding to the sexiest couples in Hollywood list.
There are exceptions! Many on-screen couples have connected off-screen and some of them have even stayed together. This way, you to vicariously fulfill your romantic fantasies through them. There's still hope, guys! Here's one of many examples:
12. True Blood: Sookie Stackhouse & Bill Compton
True Blood's vampire and fang-banging fairy have been soulmates on screen since 2008 and have been married off-screen since 2010. The spouses had twins in September 2012.
