Spoilers follow for 13 Reasons Why Season 1.

Will there ever be an original show on as good as , or perhaps even better? Yes, there already is — and it's called 13 Reasons Why.

The series premiered on March 31st, and not merely a week and a half later the internet is already in love with it. Based on the novel of the same name, 13 Reasons Why revolves around the suicide of Liberty High student Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) and the 13 tapes she left behind describing the reasons for her decision (and the people involved). Many viewers who've finished the show are desperately demanding a sequel, and with the massive cliffhangers left with the final episode, fans are not the only ones who want the story to continue.

The author of the novel the show is based on, Jay Asher, is on board with a sequel, even though a sequel to the novel doesn't exist. As he explained to EW:

"I'd just like a continuation of all those characters, I'm curious as well. What happens to Clay? How do people react to what Alex did at the very end? What's going to happen to Mr. Porter? I'd thought of a sequel at some point. I'd brainstormed it, but decided I wasn’t going to write it. So I'd love to see it."

He continued by saying that if Season 2 happens, then perhaps the best way to approach it is by concentrating on what happens to Clay (Dylan Minnette) and the others, rather than to continue Hannah's story:

"Things weren’t left open in the hopes of a sequel… There is no end for the characters left behind. Every action we have is going to have repercussions in ways we could not anticipate. You realize that with not just what Hannah did, but also how other people treated Tyler throughout it. It’s the whole message of the book. Of course, there’s obviously ways to go with a second season if they do that."

In the final episode, we saw Tyler (Devin Druid) packing high ammunition and several guns, implying his intentions for a school shooting. That seems to be the direction the show is heading if Season 2 comes to fruition. The final episode also saw Alex (Miles Heizer) take his own life, and that is a theme the show could definitely explore again.

Like Asher said, there's many ways to go with a second season — now it's just a matter of whether that season will happen.
