Here's a double dose of bad news for fans of as it looks like the Fight Club director has lost not one, but two movie projects. First up is the adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo. We reported a while back that the production was in trouble when Brad Pitt jumped ship and despite a host of names being linked to the movie, including and , a replacement wasn't found. According to Indiewire Fincher then wanted to bring on board but Disney were cold to the idea, preferring instead. It seems that an impasse was reached, so Fincher decided to call it quits and signed up to direct Gone Girl instead.

And here's where the second problem arises.

Fincher is still locked in to direct The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest, with Seven scribe Andrew Kevin Walker currently working on a script. Sony are looking to get the project off the ground soon, but with star Daniel Craig busy until the new year, cameras realistically can't start rolling until early 2014. According to The Hollywood Reporter this would then clash with Fincher's commitment to Gone Girl, meaning Sony are almost certain to continue the Millenium series without him. Don't feel too sorry for the guy though. He signed a pay or play deal with Sony so even if he gets kicked off the movie, he'll still earn enough money to buy lots of rounds of drinks at the next staff party.

I want to hear what you think. Who would you like to see direct The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest now Fincher is seemingly out of the picture?
