There are numerous prestigious award ceremonies that annually honor the greatest films of the year for different categories such as Best Actor/Actress, Best Director and Best Picture. But did you know that there is an award ceremony that awards the best trailers of the year?

The Golden Trailer Awards give out awards to the best trailers and teasers of the year, which is justified, as trailers have really become their own piece of art and certain trailer releases have become events in and of themselves. Let's take a look at which trailers from the past year were awarded for being spectacular.

** Winners will be in bold **

Best of Show

  • Blade Runner: 2049 “Trailer 1″
  • Dunkirk “Home”
  • Manchester By The Sea
  • The Lego Batman Movie “Domestic Trailer”
  • ** Wonder Woman “What She Is”

was a huge hit at the box office along with being a huge success with both the critics and the fans. Less than a week later, we see that the highly-acclaimed film is already gathering in awards. This trailer perfectly captured the pure plot and heart of Wonder Woman, delighting its audience in the process.

  • ** Baby Driver “Burn Out”
  • John Wick: Chapter 2 “Vengeance”
  • King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword “Throne”
  • Kong: Skull Island “Magnificent”
  • Passengers “INT’L Trailer G”

The first critic reviews are rolling out for and it looks like this Edgar Wright film lives up to the quality of this beautiful trailer. The music in this trailer perfectly blends with what's on-screen; the only thing it fails to do is let you breathe. The fast-paced, charming trailer that deserves every bit of recognition.

Best Animation/Family

  • A Dog’s Purpose “Life”
  • Beauty And The Beast “Tale”
  • Despicable Me 3 “Brothers”
  • The Lego Batman Movie “Comic-Con”
  • ** The Lego Batman Movie "Domestic Trailer"

Competing against itself and three other films, was recognized for its fun and entertaining trailers. The domestic trailer specifically did an impeccable job showing us the plot of this movie while also showcasing some funny, 'Bat-tacular' moments.

  • Bad Moms “Play Date Red”
  • Baywatch “Domestic Trailer 2″
  • Office Christmas Party "Ho Ho Ho"
  • Snatched “Non-Refundable”
  • ** The House “Bets”

releases in theaters on June 30th, and many of us are looking forward to seeing this film after watching its hilarious trailer. Led by comedians Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler, the trailer highlights unique humor of the raunchy comedy; it was successful in getting audiences to be intrigued.

  • ** I Am Not Your Negro Trailer
  • Rats “Rats”
  • Risk “Risk”
  • Tickled “Everywhere”
  • Weiner Trailer

is a documentary that tells a very important story telling the history of segregation and civil rights in the United States. With a beautiful score, this trailer gives its viewers a quick glimpse at the outstanding story its about to tell that leaves us at the edge of our seats wanting to learn more.

Best Drama

  • ** Dunkirk “Home”
  • Hidden Figures “Trailer C”
  • Moonlight Trailer
  • Patriots Day “Survive”
  • Sully “Brace”

It is very hard to take anything away from the first full-length trailer for Christopher Nolan's . If there was one word to describe this trailer, it would have to be 'stunning'. It's intense, really raises the hairs on your arms. It's the sort of trailer built to move audiences, and it does its job.

Best Fantasy/ Adventure

  • Doctor Strange “Future”
  • Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Trailer
  • Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children “Protect”
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story “Protect”
  • ** Wonder Woman “What She Is”

This trailer was so fantastic that it went on to win the overall Best Trailer. If there were ever any hesitation from audiences for this film before, it suddenly vanished after watching this trailer.

Best Horror

  • Annabelle: Creation “Pray”
  • Get Out “Mind”
  • ** IT “Slide”
  • The Conjuring 2 “Back”
  • The Hatred “Alice”

The "Slide" trailer for is one of my personal favorite trailers of the entire year. If anyone wasn't anticipating this movie before, they immediately jumped on the hype-train after catching a glimpse at this trailer. "Slide" is brilliant yet horrifying in a way that succeeded at sending chills down the viewer's spine.

Best Teaser

  • American Assassin “Faces”
  • ** Blade Runner: 2049 “Trailer 1″
  • Dunkirk “Imminent”
  • La La Land “City Of Stars” Teaser
  • The Magnificent Seven “Seven”

While the Golden Trailers didn't call "Trailer 1" for an official trailer, it still didn't stop the film from winning an award for Best Teaser at the award ceremony. After a long hiatus, this trailer made fans of the original movie intrigued for what this upcoming sequel has to offer.

All in all, these trailers were amazing and the Golden Trailers is certainly one of the more unique movie award ceremonies out there. In fact, there were many other categories that you can check out here if you're interested. Personally, I am very content with the winners besides the fact that the first trailers for Thor: Ragnarok and Kingsman: The Golden Circle weren't recognized.
