Despite the massive success of 's 300, we've heard extremely little about the upcoming sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire. Personally, I was getting a little bit worried about the quiet treatment we all seem to be getting.
However, we've finally received some information about the directed historical epic. In an interview with CBR, Rise of An Empire front man, has explains some of what we can expect once it's released. He said:
"I would say that you get to know a little bit about [Xerxes'] backstory, which I thought is pretty cool. It's more like you have the new Athenian, Sullivan. You have 's character, which is a commander, a naval commander, my naval commander, and you have Xerxes. It gravitates between all three, what's going on."
The talk of naval commanders, and the film's original title of 300: Battle for Artemisium, pretty clearly indicates this installment will be a seaborne spectacular. The Battle of Artemisium saw the united Greek city states taking on the massive Persian fleet in 480BC - at pretty much the same time as Leonidas' famous stand at Thermopylae (See Dad, that history degree did come in handy).
The sea-battles might make a nice change from the close-quarter action of 300. Indeed, Santoro explained how it compared to Zack Snyder's vision:
"I didn't see the movie yet, the final result, but the experience -- I mean, Zack was pretty much involved because he wrote it and he's producing it. His hands are there, but Noam will have his own take on directing it. I think it's going to be pretty awesome, and the fans are going to be pleased."
300: Rise of an Empire will feature the return of as well as starring , Igal Naor, and Callan Mulvey. We can expect it to sail into theaters on August 2nd. Click the [[follow]] button to get the latest info out of the film from Moviepilot.
