47 Ronin featured some mind-blowing creatures, inspired by Japanese mythological monsters. Check out this stunning concept art of the dragon Kirin and other fantastical beasts below.

Framestore art director and lead concept artist Kevin Jenkins has posted these illustrations for 47 Ronin. All creatures and effects for the show were designed by Jenkins and his team. As he wrote, they wanted to create a tribute to the the movies that also inspired 's samurai fantasy adventure itself. The aim was to construct the live action version of Miyazaki's famous animations. Jenkins wrote:

After some initial work was done by the Production Design team, myself and my team then handled all creature and effects designs for the show. All the designs were meant as a tribute to the wonderful Miyazaki movies, as that was the Director's inspiration as well.

I was especially pleased with the dragon design as this was a last minute addition and was a sequence added well after production had wrapped. I produced the initial sketches for the dragon, which then were worked up by the team and handed over to VFX.

Take a look at his indeed cool looking dragons.
