For the last three years, a crew of pirates has captured our hearts. is filled with everything you’d expect from a original show, incredibly-written scripts, beautiful action, intense sex and bloody violence, and like all other Starz series, Black Sails is excellent .

Each episode feels like a movie, with impressive visuals and a story that leaves us wanting more. Unfortunately, Black Sails has entered its fourth and final season, but before you embark on one final journey, here is everything you need to know to prepare for the ride.

The Pirates Of Nassau

Black Sails takes place in the early 1700s. The city of Nassau in New Providence Island (Bahamas) is a pirate haven and England is struggling to keep it under its control. The country’s main opposition is the man known as Captain Flint, who is said to have stolen large amounts of gold from a top Spanish ship, the Urca de Lima.

Every crew has a captain and commanding this show’s main group of criminals is Captain Flint. Known as Flint by the pirates of Nassau and James McGraw by the British Empire, the captain was once a naval officer for England, but after his romantic affair with Thomas and Miranda Hamilton was discovered, he was forced into exile.

Suffering from the loss of Thomas, who had committed suicide, Flint traveled to Nassau and eventually became one of the island’s most feared and respected pirates. With Nassau now under British control, he has joined forces with a number of maroons to invade the island.

Mr. Silver is the current right-hand man, or quartermaster of Captain Flint. He initially came aboard Flint’s ship disguised as a cook, hiding with him a document with the location of immense amounts of Spanish gold. When Flint discovered the truth, Silver memorized the document and later burned it, guaranteeing his safety.

Through Season 1 and 3, Silver lost his leg and became loved and feared by Flint’s crew, eventually becoming the legend, Long John Silver.

He is known for his wit and impeccable personality.

One of the smartest characters in the show, Max is a former prostitute who sided with John Silver in finding the Spanish gold. After several attempts to steal the gold, she eventually sided with Anne Bonny and Jack Rackham, who later found and return the gold to Nassau.

Splitting the gold between the three and Charles Vane, they later exchange part of the gold for pearls when England takes over the island. Max is now the top merchant in the island, also acting as an adviser to the governor.

The most respected duo in Nassau, the two were once part of Charles Vane’s crew, but after they discovered the Spanish gold with the help of Max, the two became the richest pirates and rulers of Nassau. When England took over the island most of their gold was taken and returned to Spain, except for the exchanged pearls.

After Captain Flint, the most feared pirate in Nassau was Charles Vane. A former disciple of Blackbeard, Vane was hanged in public. His death inspired the pirate revolt that will carry on in Season 4.

Former lover of Charles Vane, friend and lover of Max and merchant leader of Nassau, when England occupied the island she became second-in-command to the governor. She is now hated by every pirate in Nassau for the death of Charles Vane.

The current governor of Nassau is Woodes Rogers. He first came to the island offering pardons to the pirates, but after Flint directly opposed his ways and Spain demanded the rest of their gold (pearls), he made it his mission to bring order to Nassau with the help of Eleanor Guthrie. He now prepares for Flint’s return to the island.

Edward Teach is most known as the menacing . After Charles Vane’s execution he is now after Eleanor Guthrie’s head.

Former quartermaster of Flint, Bones is the current pirate resistance leader in Nassau and the one responsible for creating the myth of . He also despises Captain Flint for his ruthless ways and wants him dead.

The leader of the maroons, she is falling in love with John Silver and is the one supplying Flint with an army. She is a key element for a successful invasion of Nassau.

Preparing For An Invasion

The death of Charles Vane has inspired a revolt in Nassau. Miles away on another island, the maroons along with Captain Flint, Jack Rackham, John Silver and a crew of pirates fight off an army of British soldiers who were looking for the remaining Spanish gold, the pearls.

With the pearls securely hidden and the British soldiers defeated, Flint and the others prepare to take back Nassau with the help of Madi and the maroons.

Back in Nassau, Billy Bones has created the myth of Long John Silver to strengthen the pirate resistance and governor Woodes Rogers along with Eleanor Guthrie are struggling to keep the island in order.

With Nassau divided and an imminent invasion on the way, Season 4 of Black Sails will sure leave its mark on the seas of entertainment with a loud bang.
