Now, in the wake of the tragic, untimely death of , the world was always going to have to do a whole lot of adjusting. Fisher, after all, wasn't simply a movie star, or a writer, or a hero to millions - she was an icon. As Princess Organa, she captured the imagination of multiple generations of kids and adults alike, helping to redefine the idea of a princess in the process. Diana, Princess of Wales may have been dubbed 'the people's princess', but for anyone who'd ever fallen in love with , the tough, snarky, ridiculously capable Leia was the only true princess around.

Which is perhaps why...

Fans Are Determined To Make Leia An Official Disney Princes

That, after all, is the goal of a recently launched Change.org petition, which argues that should make Princess Leia an official Disney princess, in order to memorialize Fisher, and her impact. As petition starter Cody Christensen puts it:

"After the tragic lose of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated and make Leia a full-fledged princess. This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney's new properties that is beloved by millions.

What we are asking is that the Walt Disney Corporation hold a full ceremony inducting Leia as the newest Disney princess as well as a special service in memory of Carrie Fisher."

And, it seems, many fans agree, with the petition having reached over 33,000 signatures at the time of writing.

Now, of course, it's entirely possible to argue that the gloriously iconoclastic Fisher herself would have given precisely no damns about whether or not Leia was an official Disney princess - much as it's possible to question the need for an official classification of 'Disney princess' at all. Heck, I'd personally rather see Disney introduce a line of 'Disney Military Heroes', featuring the likes of General Leia Organa and Mulan, but for some reason Bob Iger won't respond to my phone calls, emails or personal appearances at his office.

That being said, of course, the petition also remains a sign of just how much Carrie Fisher - and Leia - meant to so many people, and as such it would be churlish to be quite that critical. What's more, it's difficult to imagine any club, princess-themed or otherwise, that wouldn't be improved by Leia's presence. Or indeed Fisher's, for that matter.

If you're interested in adding your name to the petition, then, you can do so right here. May the force be with you, and all that.

Still want more on Carrie Fisher, and her legacy? Never fear, we've got you covered right here.

In the meantime, though, what do you reckon? Should Leia be made an official Disney princess? Let us know below!
