One of the most iconic characters has arrived in the : . He's been a fan-favorite for decades - the idea, creation, and mythology of Ghost Rider is what makes him so iconic. It's interesting that we didn't get Johnny Blaze's version of the Ghost Rider, instead we get to see Robbie Reyes' version.

We've seen Ghost Rider do some pretty demented stuff on , yet there's still powers we'd like to see him use. Ghost Rider has "flash fried" some people on the show, but the name of that ability hasn't been revealed. This power resembles the similar effects of the Penance Stare.

What Is The Penance Stare, Exactly? Can Any Ghost Rider Use It?

The penance stare is the Ghost Rider's most powerful weapon. When using the penance stare, it enables the Rider to incapacitate victim(s) by locking eyes with each other. After doing this, the Ghost Rider is able to make the victim feel all the physical and emotional pain the victim has ever caused to any innocent person in their life.

There have also been instances where the Penance Stare has actually killed people because of the severity of their sin.

So far, three out of the four Ghost Riders can use the Penance Stare: Johnny Blaze, Daniel Ketch, and Alejandra Jones - the first female Ghost Rider. Robbie Reyes' version of GR isn't possessed by the Spirit of Vengeance, therefore he is unable to use the Penance Stare himself.

Is There Anybody That Isn't Affected By The Penance Stare?

Ghost Rider uses this ability to avenge the innocent. After using the soul searing effects of the Penance Stare on a number of victims, there have been times where the ability had no effect - instead backfiring on Ghost Rider:

Mr. Hyde

After trying to use the ability on Mr. Hyde (aka, Calvin Zabo), it then triggered the transformation, causing him to change back into Zabo. Mr. Hyde then fled, therefore the Penance Stare took no effect.

The Punisher

Frank Castle is someone who has his mind set on one thing: vengeance - much like the Ghost Rider. After a small battle, Ghost Rider had a chance to use the Penance Stare. Once he tried to use the ability, the Punisher was able to resist the affect because he has no regret for the murders he has committed, thus making the Penance stare useless on Frank.

For someone as ruthless as Venom, you would think he'd be a perfect candidate for the full use of the Penance Stare. After Ghost Rider attempts to use the Penance Stare on Venom, it had then backfired, causing a blast that knocked back both Ghost Rider and Venom, rendering the Penance Stare useless.

The Penance Stare has an affect on Deadpool, but not how you think. After using the Penance Stare on the Merc With A Mouth, instead of showing regret and the pain he has cause to his enemies, it showed him a highlight reel of events that showed how he came to be. Once this happened, Ghost Rider transformed back to Johnny Blaze, essentially showing that the ability backfired.

What do you think about the Penance Stare? Do you think the Penance Stare has been hinted on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Will we see ever see the full affects of this ability? Let us know in the comment section below!

In 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.', do you think Robbie Reyes is using the Penance Stare?
