Bill and Ted fans, it's time for a reality check: a third installment of the time-travel stoner comedy franchise - Bill & Ted 3 - could still be happening, but says the project has entered a "dark period" - a purgatory from which there is no escape...or is there?
In a recent interview with MTV, the actor revealed:
It's a long story. There's lots of subterfuge and conspiracy theories. There's a whole thing... I might have to do one of those independent press, conspiracy, other-name kind of [statements] explaining why it hasn't happened yet, because it's pretty dark out there.
While it does sound a lot like Reeves is joking about it, he added that there is a script, but
There's all sorts of stuff and it just can't - it's just - there's darkness out there that's keeping it from happening... It's that part of the story where it's looking grim. It's the dark period of the idea!
Perhaps he's referring to practical or financial difficulties, or maybe they've just hit a creative roadblock. Or perhaps Bill & Ted confronting the darkness is simply part of accepting that nothingness is inescapable. As a philosopher once put it, "Dust. Wind. Dude." Either way, it's always dark before dawn, so I'm holding out hope for this one. What about you?
