The recent announcement regarding the upcoming live-action movie has left fans abuzz. The movie, which currently does not have a release date yet, is being helmed by The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay. McKay is perfect for the film given that he knows exactly how to bring a lighter touch to the dark, bleak world of — which is really what Nightwing's all about. So far no casting announcement has been made, and that has given fans, myself included, ample time to speculate who could be Bludhaven's dark protector.

To find the perfect actor to play an iconic character is always hard, and it's up to the director to decide how he wants to bring the comic world to life. Fans, however, always try to find just the right actors who will embody the characters in each and every way. For that particular reason I decided to omit much talked about names like Steven Yeun and Dev Patel, who were racially dissimilar to the character. I also excluded actors who did not fit Grayson's height (Zac Efron, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Kevin Zeger) or were too young (Dylan O Brien, 's Trevor Stines). Strangely enough, all of the list is comprised of TV actors rather than movie stars.

With that in mind, here are five actors who'd be perfect for the role of Dick Grayson in the upcoming Nightwing movie:

1. Ian Somerhalder

This alumnus has often been a prime contender for this role, even when there were no plans for the movie. Fans on various forums have brought his name forward but have been dissuaded by the fact that Somerhalder is 38, which is far too old for the twenty-something . However, Snyder's decision to use an older actor to play Batman has made Somerhalder's casting feasible. Somerhalder fits the profile and physical features of the character and is a capable enough actor to be able to adapt to whatever world McKay builds.

2. Jared Padalecki

It's usually the other Winchester brother (as he's known on the hit ) that's usually considered (at least by fans) for comic book roles, but by Padalecki's own admission, he'd love to play the role:

Padalecki would be perfect for the role as he not only fits the build and look but also because he's able to pull off comedic moments while simultaneously handling dark stuff on Supernatural, which could surely come in handy.

3. Matt Bomer

Once upon a time, this star was set to play alongside Amy Adams in J.J Abram's . However, since that panned out the actor has mostly left the superhero scene alone. Bomer (despite being 38) looks much younger than his age. He is charming as well as versatile actor — something he's proven time and time again through his movie and roles, such as The Nice Guys and White Collar. Bomer's screen presence is a big point in his favor. Bomer's also quite good looking and physically resembles Grayson. Having him don the black and blue (or red) suit wouldn't be the worst decision in the world.

4. Richard Madden

Richard Madden — better known as Robb Stark from — has proven time and time again that he's a pretty solid actor, whether that's on film (Bastille Day), in a TV series (Medici: Masters of Florence, GoT) or even theater (Be Near Me, Romeo And Juliet). He's fit enough for the role and can definitely pull it off, acting wise. Plus, he's more recognizable than a lot of the actors on this list, which can only help the gain more traction.

5. Sam Heughan

Sam Heughan is an up and coming actor who shot to fame due to his role as Jamie Fraser on the Starz network historical drama, . Like Madden, Heughan has dabbled in everything from film to theater and tuned his performance enough to be nominated at this years Critics Choice Award for Best Actor In A Drama Series. Interestingly enough, the actor played the role of from 2011–2012 in the theatre production of Batman Live. This definitely means that he's familiar with the Batman mythos and, more importantly, has some idea of the Batman–Robin relationship, which could be a big advantage when playing Grayson.

Heughan also bears a somewhat strong resemblance to Nightwing, and given his height and lean physique, could be a pretty strong candidate for the folks at the DC to consider.
