We were all shocked to learn of Adam West's death earlier this month. The legendary actor passed away at the age of 88 after a short battle with leukemia. West is best known for playing Batman in the classic '60s #TV series and subsequently portrayed the DC superhero multiple times throughout his career, including in a feature film, and voiced the character one final time for the upcoming Batman Vs. Two Face, an animated sequel to Batman: Return of The Caped Crusaders.
In addition to his #Batman work, West is known for voicing Mayor Adam West — a fictionalized version of himself — on the animated series #FamilyGuy. After the actor passed, fans of the hit comedy show were left wondering how the writers would deal with the actor's death, and now we finally know the answer.
Family Guy executive producer Steve Callahan told Entertainment Weekly that West had recorded more episodes of Family Guy before his passing:
"Mayor West will be in five more episodes of the show that are scheduled to air this coming season."
Callahan was full of praise for the actor and his continued performance as the mayor character, telling Entertainment Weekly:
"The thing about Adam West is that every time he would come to record, he was just vital and healthy and had so much energy and happiness — no one that you would ever think wouldn’t be with you much longer. So it was very shocking, and it wasn’t that long ago… that he was here. We will miss him a lot."
Family Guy already paid tribute to West earlier this month by re-airing the episode "The Dating Game." West has been a recurring part of Family Guy since 2000 and has voiced the eccentric character in over 100 episodes. Callahan called West "irreplaceable."
Remembered for his bizarre behavior and unforgettable lines, Mayor West became a fan-favorite Family Guy character. In real life, West found himself reaching a whole new audience through his appearances on the animated comedy series.
Regardless of whether you knew him from Batman or Family Guy, #AdamWest was a hero in his own right. We already have another opportunity to say goodbye to West's Caped Crusader when Batman Vs Two-Face is released, and we're really happy that we'll get another chance to bid farewell to his second-best character with the Family Guy episodes.
Family Guy's fifteenth season airs in October. What was your favoirte Mayor West moment on Family Guy? Tell us in the comment section below.
