For anyone still smarting from the loss of ABC's Agent Carter to cancellation earlier this year, it's unlikely that any amount of speculation is going to truly ease the pain. After all, for as long as Hayley Atwell's Agent Peggy Carter remains absent from our screens, there's really no way to solve the central problem that it created.
Thankfully, though, Atwell herself recently opted to spread a gentle sliver of hope onto the dry, dry toast of disappointment, and to reassure us all that we may not yet have seen the end of Peggy Carter. Y'see:
According To Hayley Atwell, An Agent Carter Movie Could Still Happen
Or, at least, Atwell's certainly doing her best to make it happen. As she put it in a recent interview with Comic Book Resources:
"I hound [Marvel Studios' Louis] D’Esposito on a regular basis, saying, ‘Give me a movie!'"
Which may not be quite so helpful to a potential movie's chances as, say, Agent Carter having had far better ratings than it ever managed, but it's good to hear all the same. Especially since Atwell went on to add that:
"I think the great thing about Peggy is, we know from 'Winter Soldier' that she lives a long life, so she can come back. I’m banking on, when I’m in my fifties, I’m like, ‘This is the time. Let’s see what Peggy’s up to in this decade.'"
Hopefully, though, we won't have to wait quite that long to see another dose of Agent Carter-themed awesomeness on screen — and it seems that Atwell isn't giving up hope of that either:
"She does still seem to live on a lot for the fans. And Marvel is still such a big part of my career, especially my professional family, that I would absolutely not rule out the idea of going back to Peggy at some point, seeing her in other avenues. I love her, and I hope that she has a life elsewhere at another time."
Someone get the time-traveling Kang the Conqueror's rights issues sorted out, stat! Or, y'know, just persuade Marvel to make another One-Shot:
