First he's dead in The Avengers, then he's maybe not dead, then he's maybe doing the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, then he's definitely on the show? These are the things Marvel fans have been contending with. Needless to say, they really want their Agent Phil Coulson fix.
Although they may not be getting it in Iron Man 3, they most certainly will on the small screen. chatted with Collider at WonderCon and let rip all the latest details on Agent Coulson's resurrection, his role in S.H.I.E.L.D. and the possibility that Coulson will make it back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
First, some highlights. On his resurrection and role in S.H.I.E.L.D:
After people see the show, they'll have some clue as to why I'm still there, still breathing. But I don’t think they'll know everything...
Hm. Well, he certainly knows how to hook people (myself included) into watching the show. But, will it be more the Agent Coulson Show or him heading up an ensemble? We'll just have to wait for someone to either spill the beans (we hope) or wait until pilot comes out.
The bigger question of Coulson getting screen-time in any of the gigantic pile of upcoming MCU movies, however, is another thing entirely:
If my schedule doesn't conflict, and they need him in one of the movies, will they come calling? My feeling is that there's no breaks in continuity with this and the Marvel movie universe. It makes sense in that universe, and I certainly feel like his chances of appearing in those movies are far better than when he was far out dead.
Gregg also gives some background on how he got to be involved with S.H.I.E.L.D., saying that "there's nothing else I'd rather be doing". Aww. Really. What's not to like about this guy? It's a neat little sit-down with an actor who clearly loves his character as much as the fans do, so take a break and watch the whole thing:
