It has seemed a little unfair that while Greek mythology has had so many cinematic explorations over the last few years (Immortals, two Clash of the Titans flicks, and even a couple of Hercules outings on the horizon), Egyptian mythology has been gathering dust. Enter ' mythological epic Gods of Egypt.
The film stars , , and . It follows the story of a human thief who attempts to defeat Set, the mad god, after Set slays Osiris. Osiris' son Horus fails in his attempt at revenge and has an eye plucked out for his efforts. Today, THR is reporting that Gods of Egypt has found its female lead.
Aussie actress , who will also appear in Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015, will take the top female role here of a slave with whom our human hero falls in love.
This may very well turn out to be more paint-by-number epic filmmaking like the Clash of the Titan movies, but I must admit the very fact that it is focusing on Egyptian mythology as opposed to Greek is enough to pique my interest. Fury Road is Eaton's first feature and no one has yet seen it, so I find it difficult to comment on her casting.
