Festival director Alberto Barbera got himself a true gem as the opening film of the 70th Venice Film Festival. 's 3D sci-fi suspense thriller Gravity will have its world premiere at the Lido on the 28th of August.

Gravity stars and as two astronauts lost in space, who desperately try to make it back to their space station before their oxygen runs out.

The Mexican filmmaker has premiered previous films of his in Venice to pretty good results: the saucy road movie Y tu mama tambien won the Golden Osella for Best Screenplay as well as the Marcello Mastroianni Award for its two stars, and , while Children Of Men won the Best Cinematography Golden Osella for Emmanuel Lubezki.

It helped of course that those movies were terrific. Let's hope Gravity follows that trend!

Do you think Gravity will deliver the pee-your-pants suspense it promises?
