There seems to be a big market for the re-imagining of classic fantastical tales. Hansel and Gretel recently returned as bad-ass witch killers, while this week we learned Washington Irving's Sleepy Hollow is getting a modern day TV adaptation. Add this to the already existing Grimm and Once Upon A Time, and that gives us a veritable leaf-pile of fairy tale inspired TV shows. I don't think we can expect this trend to slow down anytime soon, as even more fantasy inspired shows are on the way.
Next up on the list is Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that CSI creator recently got the go ahead to develop a new TV pilot for NBC.
The show, which will simply be titled Wonderland, will follow the life of a young woman named Clara. Seven years earlier Clara's life had taken an unexpected turn for the worst. A mysterious stranger reveals that an explanation for all her woes might lie in the magical world of Wonderland. Now determined to get her life back on track, Clara agrees to confront Wonderland's malevolent Queen Alice. Yep, that's right. It turns out the young girl we all grew up with will be playing the baddie in this new hour long series. That was certainly unexpected.
The pilot episode will be written by Whit Anderson, while Zuicker will act as executive producer along with Matt Weinberg, Joann Alfano, and Margaret Riley.
What do you think? Are you glad to see another fantasy inspired TV series? Personally, I think it's all gone a bit far, but then again, I've never been a fan of such shows. Let me know what you think below.
