Potterheads looking for a small reunion of the Harry Potter cast will enjoy Alice Through the Looking Glass, and if anyone is a huge Alan Rickman fan, you'll get a glimpse of his amazing talent in the upcoming sequel. The follow-up to 2010's Alice In Wonderland was the late actor's final role before his tragic passing earlier this year. This film reunites Rickman with other A-list stars from the world of Harry Potter, like Helena Bonham Carter and Rhys Ifans.
Rickman is teamed with many co-stars from the works of Tim Burton; even though this new film isn't directed by Burton himself, he is one of its producers. And it looks like Burton had a say in the casting of the sequel, but I'm not complaining.
If you've never seen Burton's Alice in Wonderland or if you're new to the whole story, then that's perfectly fine! Some of the characters and actors might be familiar to you from other movies or TV shows. Just to name a few, we have:
Mia Wasikowska As Alice
Wasikowska plays Alice once again in a lighter mood than her last film Crimson Peak, which starred Jessica Chastain and Tom Hiddleston. In her return to Alice, Wasikowska arrvies home after exploring the seas for three years and encounters her old friend the Caterpillar, who leads her through a looking glass, back into the fantasy world of Wonderland.
Helena Bonham Carter As The Red Queen
Bonham Carter, another former co-star of Rickman's, reprises her role as the Red Queen. If you loved her performance in Alice, then you will love her return in this sequel. She was my favorite in the first movie and she is still my favorite now.
Johnny Depp As The Mad Hatter
Depp reprises the role as the infamous Mad Hatter who believes in Alice, no matter what, and is her dearest friend. It's obvious that Depp is committed to the part; he surprised guests at Disneyland in Anaheim in full costume earlier this year. Check out the video!
Just to name a few familiar faces, this film is filled with other returning A-listers such as Anne Hathaway (the White Queen), Matt Lucas (Tweedledee and Tweedledum), Stephen Fry (Cheshire Cat), and Timothy Spall (the Blood Hound). Joining the cast, for the first time we have Sacha Baron Cohen as the half-human/half-clock Time, along with the aforementioned Ifans playing the role of the Mad Hatter's father. Did I also mention there are little cameos made by familiar actors? Maybe you'll catch them throughout the movie like I did.
If you're all about jumping or falling into a rabbit hole, then Alice Through the Looking Glass is right up your ally. It's filled with fantasy, an A-list class, quirky humor, amazing set design and inspired costuming. And let's not forget the amazing performances from Wasikowska and Depp. I absolutely loved the first, and the sequel just became one of my favorite movies of 2016. It's definitely great for anyone wanting to see a different version of Alice and her friends. This sequel is also a great family movie for anyone of all ages to go see. There's a little bit of everything for everyone to enjoy!
Check out Alice Through the Looking Glass out in theaters May 27!
