2016 was a shit of a year for many reasons, not least because we hardly saw #RobertPattinson's razor sharp cheekbones slicing themselves into any new productions.

Luckily for us, the upcoming years will set our hearts ablaze once more with a wealth of RPatz shaped roles, seeing him play everyone from a cowboy to a criminal; so read on to find out the treats we have in store.

  • Director: Ben Safdie and Joshua Safdie
  • Who Else Is Involved? Jennifer Jason Leigh, Barkhad Abdi, Cliff Moylan and Phil Cappadora
  • When Is It Released? 2017, exact date unknown

So far details are thin on the ground about Pattinson's crime drama caper, but we do know that it follows a bank robber's attempts to evade a police dragnet and time behind bars.

The North American rights for the Ben and Joshua Safdie directed move have been acquired by A24 who is currently surfing the Golden Globes wave with Moonlight, so clearly they saw some stellar potential here.

'Damsel' (2017)

  • Director: David Zellner
  • Who Else Is Involved? Mia Wasikowska and Joseph Billingiere
  • When Is It Released? 2017, exact date unknown

The Western genre is normally unrelentingly serious, but Damsel promises to be an unusual exception by bringing the comedy. So far the details are minimal, but the movie is about a businessman who travels west to join his fiancée in the mountains.

  • Who Else Is Involved? Idris Elba, Al Pacino, Benicio Del Toro and Gucci Mane

Described as a "super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie" by Harmony Korine himself, The Trap might be a bit much for the more sensitive Twihards. The synopsis reads:

An ex-con is out for revenge against a gangster rapper and former friend who let him take the fall for a robbery they committed 14 years earlier.

  • Director: Claire Denis
  • Who Else Is Involved? Patricia Arquette and Mia Goth
  • When Is It Released? 2018, exact date unknown

Pattinson's upcoming flick is a genre-bending crime/sci-fi mashup that centers around convicts who make a plea deal on their jail time by agreeing to take on a dangerous mission to a black hole in exchange for their freedom — if they survive. Set on an intergalactic ship and with a stellar cast, this unusual outing is one to keep your peepers open for in the upcoming years.

  • Who Else Is Involved? Sylvester Stallone and Rachel Weisz
  • When Is It Released? 2018, exact date unknown

Idol's Eye is finally slated to begin filming in 2017 after the project was put on hold back in 2014. Starring alongside Sylvester Stallone, Pattinson will be taking on the tale of a thief who unwittingly steals a blue diamond from a Chicago mob boss. This event sparks off a war between the two men, but they both face a common enemy: the FBI.
