Rock Dog is a 3D animated comedy that tells the tale of a Tibetan mastiff and his journey to fulfill his destiny of becoming a musician. With a huge voice cast that's set to bring the characters to life, let's take a look at the stellar lineup for this feature-film g

1. Luke Wilson As Bodi

Luke Wilson is perhaps best known for his roles in such films as Idiocracy, Old School and The Royal Tenenbaums. In he'll play Bodi, the Tibetan Mastiff who's torn between making his dad proud and making it big as a rock star.

2. Eddie Izzard As Angus Scattergood

Though best known for his stand-up comedy, Eddie Izzard is as versatile as they come. He's snagged the Primetime Emmy Award for Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program, acted in TV shows like United States of Tara, and even voiced Sir Miles Axelrod in .

In Rock Dog, Izzard voices Angus, a British rock 'n' roll cat suffering with songwriter's block. This cool cat is under pressure from his record label to release a new hit song.

3. J.K. Simmons As Khampa

J.K. Simmons is beloved by fans for bringing J. Jonah Jameson to life in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. He also won an Academy Award for his role in Damien Chazelle's Whiplash. He also has several voice roles to his credit, including Ford Pines in Gravity Falls and Mayor Lionheart in Zootopia. Look out for him next as Commissioner James Gordon in 2017's Justice League.

As Bodi's father, traditional village guard Khampa, Simmons' character is motivated by love for his home and for his idealistic offspring. While he might be more disciplined in his approach to life, it's clear Khampa has a soft, sensitive side.

4. Lewis Black As Linnux

Perhaps best known as a comedian — and more recently known in animated circles as the voice of Anger in the film Inside Out — Lewis Black is taking on the role of the wolf and CEO of Linnux Industries. Linnux believes that Khampa's son Bodi will eventually lead him to a delicious smorgasbord of sheep.

Some might say that the role of the alpha wolf was tailor-made for Black, who is known for his aggressive, angry comic style. Linnux is sure to be a sly and powerful nemesis to Khampa and Bodi.

5. Kenan Thompson As Riff

Kenan Thompson has come a long way since 's Kenan & Kel. Thompson has been a cast member of Saturday Night Live for 14 years. He's also appeared in such films like Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Snakes on a Plane and as the titular Fat Albert in the live-action reboot of the classic cartoon.

As Riff in , he is the diminutive henchman with the larger-than-life ego, which too often leads to failure. He is determined to give his boss Linnux the help he needs to get to the sheep he so badly craves.

6. Mae Whitman As Darma

Likely best known as the religious and bland Ann Veal in , Mae Whitman has had quite the career, and it's only now starting to really take off as she leaves her 20s. More recently she starred as the approachable high schooler who realizes she's really the "designated ugly fat friend" in The Duff.

As Darma, Whitman plays the hardworking bass guitarist who knows that one day she will really get ahead as a musician and see her dreams fulfilled. She is a fox who plays daily at Rock 'n Roll Park, hoping that one day her big break will come.

6. Jorge Garcia As Germur

Jorge Garcia gained worldwide attention playing Hurley in the TV phenomenon known as . Now a regular in Hawaii Five-0 Hawaii, Garcia still finds time to perform stand-up comedy in addition to taking on voice roles such as this one.

In Rock Dog Garcia plays Germur, a laid-back goat who seems to only take the drums seriously. He may seem lacking in the intellect department, but he's a dude that can get along with just about anyone.

8. Matt Dillon As Trey

Matt Dillon has been a favorite of your mothers since starring in The Outsiders in 1983. He was considered a peripheral member of the famed of the 1980s, and not much has changed in that regard. While he no longer qualifies for teen idol status, it's clear that the gravely-voiced actor has aged like a fine wine, with his talents continuing to mature as he has.

As Trey, the snow leopard with a chip on his shoulder, Dillon breathes life into the film's guitar-wielding cocky character who does not play well with others.

8. Sam Elliott As Fleetwood Yak

Known for his roles in films like Roadhouse and Mask, Sam Elliott had his feature film debut in the iconic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in 1969. And Rock Dog is not his first voice role; he also lent his pipes to The Good Dinosaur and TV shows like . His voice is easily recognizable for its deep baritone and seductive drawl, and he is still considered one of the sexiest men in Hollywood.

As Fleetwood Yak, Elliott portrays a cruisy musician who left city life far behind him long ago. He's content living on Snow Mountain with the sheep, Bodi and Khampa, telling stories and chilling out.
