Dragon Con, the annual pop culture, sci-fi, and fantasy convention taking place over Labor Day weekend in Atlanta is a must attend for Star Wars fans, and fans of the genre in general. One of the largest conventions in the southeast, Dragon Con had around 77,000 attendees this year. Many of those attendees were cosplayers of all different ages, backgrounds, and genres, and some of my favorite cosplays at Dragon Con this year were from Star Wars.
These cosplayers were to be found at the annual Dragon Con parade, the Star Wars costume contest, at many Star Wars panels, or just wandering around the convention posing for photos with fans. I took the opportunity to capture as many photos as possible of them, and was impressed by their creativity and skill.
10. Ezra From Star Wars Rebels
This youngling was willing to pose for my camera in the middle of the parade heat, keeping a cheerful smile on his face much as I imagine the character he portrayed would!
9. Darth Vader
Finishing up the parade, the Dark Lord of the Sith himself tried to force-choke me for daring to take photos of him. I narrowly managed to survive.
8. Mace Windu-Inspired Grunge Jedi
I love seeing steam punk influence cosplays of all franchises, and Star Wars steam punk is no exception. Spotted in the parade as well, this Jedi exuded all the cool of Mace Windu and possibly more.
7. Jango Fett
One of the baddest bounty hunters in the galaxy, Boba Fett's father made an appearance at the Star Wars Costume Contest on Sunday at Dragon Con. During the contest, he performed a fast draw with his blasters, followed by twirling them.
6. Jedi Temple Guard
Also at the costume contest, this Jedi Temple Guard played his part perfectly, stoically marching up on stage, and swinging his lightsaber in defensive patterns.
5. Kylo Ren
Kylo Ren has to do anything Darth Vader did, so of course he's in the post. He was in the parade as well. I don't know how the cosplayers with thicker or multiple layers of dark clothing made it in the Atlanta heat for the parade.
Rey graced the Dragon Con parade with her presence this year. I think this was one of the best Rey cosplays I saw, but there were so many, and they were all really good! I even saw what people were calling the "Rey family," a family of four all dressed as Rey.
3. Darth Bane
This version of Darth Bane in his orbalisk armor shows up at Dragon Con every year, and is one of my favorite Star Wars cosplays from the convention. I am incredibly impressed by the skill of whoever made the cosplay, and it looks as realistic in person as it does in the photo.
2. Young Rey In A Podracer
I had to feature one of the younglings from the Star Wars Podracer event at Dragon Con. Each year, this event provides materials for children and their parents to build podracers with, and afterwards race them. This young Rey was very proud of her 'racer and her cosplay, and she loved having her photo taken.
1. Asajj Ventress
Last but not definitely not least, this Asajj Ventress cosplay was simply amazing. Also featured on the cover of this post, not only was the quality of the cosplay and the make up incredible, but the woman within as well. She perfectly displayed Asajj's attitude, and even managed to intimidate the judges right in front of the stage a little!
It was a challenge to select photos for this post because there were so many great cosplays at Dragon Con — Star Wars and others. Be sure to check out the Star Wars Report website and podcast for more great coverage of Dragon Con and other conventions.
