As the heart and soul of TV's most f**d up show, Sarah Paulson has won legions of fans over six seasons of American Horror Story, playing diverse roles that include conjoined twins and even a junkie ghost. After reprising the character of Lana Winters in Roanoke and Billie Dean Howard in Hotel, Paulson has now hinted that one of her most beloved characters of all may be the next to return in the upcoming Coven/Murder House crossover season.
During the Paley Fest panel for American Horror Story, #SarahPaulson was asked which one of her roles would she like to reprise next. Prepare for a world of hurt Hypodermic Sally fans...
“Probably Cordelia. We only got to see her just getting her powers. I just would like to know … if the power might have been something that kind of changed her. Maybe we’ll get to see that.”
Coven fans will remember that Cordelia Foxx lived under the shadow of her domineering mother for most of Season 3. By the end, though, Foxx finally stepped away from Fiona Goode's influence to become the next Supreme, all while leading Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies as Headmistress.
If Paulson had hinted that any other #AmericanHorrorStory character could return soon, we'd be more inclined to dismiss her words as wishful thinking. However, the fact that Cordelia is the one being discussed holds more weight, given that creator Ryan Murphy confirmed a Murder House/Coven crossover is in the works some time ago.
As if semi-confirmation of Corderlia's return wasn't enough to excite fans, Paulson's words also suggest that if Foxx does appear in the crossover season, then she may not be as kind as we remember. After all, Coven ended on a high note for Cordelia, who had gained new power in the role of the Supreme Witch. Paulson's answer suggests that Foxx could become corrupted by power, following her release from the tyranny of her mother.
Even if Foxx does turn to the Dark Side though, killing voodoo queens left, right, center, that doesn't mean fans will fall out of love with her character. Speaking at the same panel, executive producer Brad Falchuk discussed Paulson's appeal as an actress, arguing that people love her characters regardless of how they're written:
“What I find most fun writing for Sarah is characters that, if Sarah wasn’t playing them you would really not like them. But she makes them so likable.”
Personally, I feel that an evil version of Cordelia Foxx would be more popular with fans anyway, and add a little edge to Coven's purest character. Regardless, we're sure that Paulson will help make the Murder House/Coven crossover even more of a must-see season.

Whether Cordelia Foxx becomes evil or not, we'd rather gouge our own eyes out than miss the Murder House/Coven crossover when it eventually hits our screens. In the meantime, pray to whatever heathen gods you can in the hope that Ryan Murphy will bring back Hypodermic Sally or the Tatler twins in Season 7. There's no such thing as too much Paulson in our lives.
