Season 6, Episode 4 was arguably the most terrifying episode of AHS ever made. And if you're brave enough to relive the experience, we're taking a look back at the six most horrifying moments from Chapter 4 of Roanoke Nightmare.
1. Shelby And Matt Take On Piggy Man
Shelby may have confronted Matt over his weird sexual encounter with Lady Gaga's witch, but even after their argument there was an elephant in the room. Scratch that — there was a pig in the room. Shelby pulled the shower curtain to find the crazy Piggy Man standing in her bathtub. Shelby ran for her life, but he was at all corners of the house.
Suddenly, Elias — the man from the VHS tapes they had found several episodes ago — appeared in their home and hit Piggy with an axe. The wild slasher got back to his feet and began charging them all, but when Elias uttered the word "Croatoan" Piggy Man disappeared. The whole sequence provided a jolt of unexpected terror, and it all happened before the show's opening credits, setting the stage for even bigger scares.
2. The Truth Behind The Chen Family
Elias was quick to fill the Millers in on what's going on in the farmhouse and its surrounding area. He took Matt and Shelby down to the basement and gave them a folder with documents and newspaper clippings chronicling the house's tragic history — including the death of the Chen family.
In 1973, the Chens moved to the U.S. in the hopes of living out the American Dream. They had no idea of the history of the farmhouse once they bought it and one night while they were watching TV, something went bump in the attic. The family went upstairs to discover a family of pigs. Later, the youngest daughter went upstairs only to be pushed down them by Piggy Man. As the family tried to escape, they were attacked by the entire Roanoke colony and killed by Thomasin White, a.k.a. The Butcher.
3. The Fate Of The Twisted Sisters
The twisted sisters may be extremely scary characters, but even they were afraid of the Roanoke colony. Elias explained to Matt that the two women who tormented him were former inhabitants of the house and because they also refused to leave the land, The Butcher intervened.
On a cold October night, the colony dragged the two sisters into the woods, where The Butcher promised that their blood would be shed before two of the colonists grabbed one of the women by her arms and ripped her limb from limb. The Butcher then took care of the other one by chopping off her head. Despite the terror that the two women had caused during their lifetime, they would now be trapped with even worse people for all of eternity.

4. The Blood Moon Ritual Begins
After Elias told the Millers about the history of the house, he told them that they needed to leave immediately. Remember, it's October, and that means the Roanoke Colony will be able to kill during the upcoming Blood Moon cycle. Matt and Shelby told Elias that they could not abandon Flora, revealing that she was taken by the ghostly Priscilla. Upon hearing this, he knew exactly what to do.
The trio headed to the woods to find Flora, and after a brief encounter with some of the colony members found her alive and well, playing among the dead former residents of the house. But suddenly a horn sounded, signaling the start of the colony's Blood Moon ritual. And before we knew it, Elias was shot with three arrows as Matt and Shelby ran for their lives back to the house.
5. The Butcher Slaughters The Roanoke Colony
Cricket Marlow returned to help Matt and Shelby this week, revealing his encounter with the witch. He was able to strike a deal with her with the help of his psychic powers, and took him back in time to explain how the Roanoke colony became the owners of the land.
Marlow witnessed the Butcher being abandoned by her colonists. They hated what she had become and how she was beholden to the witch. The Butcher was furious at them for abandoning her and the witch could see it, so they came to an arrangement — the Butcher would kill them all and make them join her forever in the next life. And that's exactly what she did.
The Butcher fooled her colonists into thinking that she was repentant for everything she had done at the witch's command, providing them with fruit as a sign of forgiveness. The colonists ate the fruit and within seconds began to choke, revealing it was poisonous. The Butcher then single handedly annihilated every colonist and surrendered herself to the witch for slaughter. The horrific events tied the entire colony to the land, and on the anniversary of that night they come to life with one purpose — to murder.
6. Cricket Gets Ripped To Shreds
After another brutal encounter with the Roanoke Colony and the witch, Matt, Shelby and Flora were able to make it home safe. All seemed right in the world for that very brief moment, but things took a turn for the worst when The Butcher produced her next victim — Cricket Marlow. The psychic pleaded for his life but his requests fell on deaf ears as the she ripped Marlow's guts out as Shelby and Matt looked on in terror from their window. Even more terrifying, the Butcher then signified that they would be next.

It's safe to say that Chapter 4 of American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare proves this is the show's scariest season yet. There have been plenty of frights over the years, but the stakes have never been quite so high. Roanoke Nightmare dangles the lives of the Millers in front of our faces every week, but if they don't manage to leave the house, next week could truly mark the end for both Matt and Shelby.
