Well that's it folks, another season of #AmericanHorrorStory has come to an end — that means no more Blood Moon, no more Butcher, no more Polks and no more insanity... at least for now. #AHS Season 6 was pretty spectacular; a bloody retrospective of our obsession with fame, horror and 'real life'. The series kept up a relentless pace from start to finish, and is arguably the most terrifying yet.
The entirety of Season 6 was one brutal moment after another — but now it's over, let's reflect on the most horrifying, savage and down-right shocking moments Season 6 had to offer.
9. Edward Mott-Feeling-So-Good-Anymore
Evan Peters' flamboyant Edward Mott was one of the first hints at an interconnected AHS universe. Like his descendant Dandy, Edward was a little unhinged, suffering from extreme anxiety, living in isolation with his slaves, lover and collection of wigs. As the legend goes, the man who built the house on the Butcher's land naturally came to a very sticky end — he was impaled through the chest and thrown into the fire.
8. Family Values
The Chens — the poor family of Taiwanese immigrants who were unfortunately caught up in the Blood Moon— also came to a bloody end. Whilst inhabiting the Roanoke house, the Chens were slaughtered by the Butcher and her mob, only to return as ceiling-scuttling, Grudge-like ghosts.
7. Broken On The Wheel
No minor character was safe from the wrath of Roanoke, even Lee's well-meaning ex-husband who was discovered in the woods having been roasted like a pig. The jury is still out of this one. Did Lee really kill her husband? Perhaps. But how she managed to string him up on that wheel and set him on fire all by herself is anyone's guess.
6. "Welcome to the Lana Winters Special"
One of the best moments of the season happened right at the very end. We all remember Lana Winters as the hard-as-nails journalist who took down Bloody Face and killed her own son from Season 2's Asylum. Her return was a welcome relief — and gave us further proof of the interconnected American Horror Story universe.

5. The REAL Butcher
One of the most shocking moments was Agnes Mary Winstead's complete mental break after her stint playing the leader of the Roanoke colony — Thomasin White a.k.a. The Butcher. After murdering several cast members, including My Roanoke Nightmare creator Sidney James, Agnes got what was coming to her. When the real Butcher is revealed, it's terrifying. Unlike Agnes' incarnation, she says nothing — just slams that cleaver right through the middle of Agnes' skull.
4. Killer Nurses
The killer nurses of Roanoke were a terrifying side-plot, especially when you remember that they actually existed. The pair totally deserved to be the subjects of a Blood Moon sacrifice, after their rather specific way of choosing their victims. No one could have predicted the moment when poor Rory got caught in their crosshairs, making him the first cast member of the Return to Roanoke: Three Days in Hell to die a gut-churning death.
The Polks were truly abhorrent, evil and emotionless — if Season 6 had just been about them, it would have been horrifying enough. When we first meet the Polks, they have hacked off Dr. Elias Cunningham's leg and force fed it to their terrified captives — Mama Polk also breaks Shelby's leg (a la Misery) when she tries to escape. Their most terrifying moment comes when they capture Lee, Monet and Audrey. They begin to slice of prime chunks of Lee's legs and arms — and even pickle her ear. They then force feed pieces of Lee to Monet and Audrey, and they even manage to rip out one of Audrey's teeth. Brutal.
2. Cricket Guts
Okay, here's when things got seriously hard to stomach. Poor Cricket was just trying to make a sort-of honest living outta being a psychic — until the Butcher got her hands on him. There was something deeply visceral about Cricket's death — the way Ambrose attached the hook to Cricket's intestines and dragged them slowly out of his stomach inch by inch. Even by American Horror Story's standards, this moment was a shock to the senses.
1. Millennial Murder
Episode 9 was one of the most insane episodes of American Horror Story to date. It was pure terror at a relentless pace, culminating in one of the more undeserved and tragic deaths of the season. We only knew Sophie (Taissa Farmiga), Todd and Milo for a moment, but these three had some of the most brutal treatment at the hands of the Butcher and her mob. These three stupid kids wandered into the most deadly place on Earth at the most deadly time of year. Their reward? To be impaled and set on fire. What made it worse is that the audience gets the perfect front row seat, as it was all captured on their head cams.
