An immense eagle from Middle Earth was not able to fly at the New Zealand airport.

As the N Z Herald reports, a severe earthquake hit the North Island of New Zealand on Monday afternoon and the giant eagle suspended from the roof of Wellington Airport, promoting The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (which, as we all know, was shot in New Zealand), became detached and fell from the ceiling due to the serious shaking in the main terminal building. While the airport installation was damaged because of the earthquake, luckily no one was seriously injured. Every passenger escaped the "attack" of the majestic bird.

(The eagle, so we've heard, is in stable condition somewhere in the Misty Mountains.)

The 6.3 magnitude earthquake that shook the lower part of North Island, also damaged homes, blocked roads by rockfalls and brought down power lines.
