I'm pretty sure Marvel is slowly taking over the world. Luckily for humanity, they seem intent on achieving this through pumping out as many superhero movies as possible. That's a much nicer method than others we've seen. There are already a lot of Marvel movies storming toward us; this year we have Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3, 2014 will deliver Captain America: The Winter Soldier, while 2015 will bring everyone back together for The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
2015 will be a big year for Marvel for another reason. It will officially commence their "Phase 3" of world domination — unleashing a whole new set of superheroes. We've all become pretty accustomed to the big guys, but Phase 3will deliver some of Marvel's more obscure crime fighters. IndieWire has revealed that Phase 3will officially kick of with the release of 's Ant-Man on November 6, 2015. The confirmer-of-all-things-Marvel, Kevin Feige, has explained that Ant-Man will add a slightly different twist to a Marvel movie:
I've known Edgar since our first lunch together at Comic-Con in 2004. He asked me what Marvel was doing with 'Ant-Man' — we weren't even a studio then; what a difference eight years makes! It's very much an 'Ant-Man' origin movie from the perspective of Edgar Wright and his co-writer Joe Cornish. It will of course be firmly planted in the MCU, but a different corner than we've seen before.
This is great news as far as I'm concerned. Wright has certainly developed his own trademark kinetic style with films such as Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. To see this applied to a Marvel movie is pretty exciting, especially when you look at the test footage clip we received last year. In fact, Feige reveals that without Wright an Ant-Man movie probably wouldn't exist:
Like 'Iron Man 3,' it's certainly set in the Marvel Universe, but it's also through the lens of Edgar Wright — which is the only reason we're making the movie.
Feige has also unleashed some more Marvel-ous news. The movie has long been stranded in the mire of movie speculation, but now it looks like we can get pretty confident about seeing one soon. Feige explains Doctor Strange will definitely make his appearance in Phase 3:
You probably don't have to look too far to guess at the next list of characters we're toying with and beginning to develop... ''Doctor Strange,' which I've been talking about for years, is definitely one of them. He's a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he's totally different from anything else we have, just like 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' He's totally different from anything we've done before, as is 'Ant-Man,' which keeps us excited.
Ant-Man is currently expected on November 6, 2015. That's quite a long-time, so in the meantime why don't you tell me which Marvel superhero you'd most like to see hit the big screen. Lay it on me in the comment section below.
