Ariel Winter has had her fair share of controversies over the past few years. Last month the star drew criticism for wearing a revealing dress to a Q&A panel, to which she responded by snapping back at the online haters. Now, Winter's estranged mother Crystal Workman has weighed in to criticize the 19-year-old for her dress sense.

Winter separated from Workman in 2012, accusing her mother of physical and mental abuse. Winter's elder sister Shanelle Workman, who was also estranged from their mother, took legal guardianship of her younger sibling.

A few days ago, Winter took to Instagram to shut down the body shamers. However, in an interview with In Touch Weekly, her mother offered a different perspective on her daughter:

“She needs to grow up. I would tell her to dress properly, be the beautiful person she is. I feel sad that she feels the need to expose herself when it’s not necessary. Ariel is smart, beautiful and talented. She is a legitimate actress. She does not need to do this. She is beautiful with her clothes on.”

Winter didn't take Workman's comments lying down, dropped a cryptic tweet apparently in response to her mother's interview:

With the kind of modern problems has faced with her real-life family, the Modern Family cast has always seemed more of a family to the young actress, with co-stars Sofia Vergara and Sarah Hyland always having her back. Let's hope it stays that way.
