The DCEU is in a pivotal phase of its development, with the tent pole superhero team-up Justice League being released this year. The film will bring together DC's greatest heroes including Cyborg, The Flash, Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. However, there is one member of the "Super 7" that has not been cast yet, and that is Green Lantern.

The absence of Green Lantern is distressing for both fans of the character and of the Justice League as a team. One of the Green Lanterns has always had some level involvement with the Justice League. The character is not only a powerhouse, but also bridges the gap between Earth and the rest of the galaxy. He's far too important to the DCEU to be left out in the cold.

Warner Bros. officially announced that they would be aggressively developing a Green Lantern Corps movie, and rumors had been thrown around that a Green Lantern would be appearing in Justice League. Then a report came out of a possible short list of actors for the role of Hal Jordan, that included Tom Cruise, Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joel McHale, and Armie Hammer.

Armie Hammer Green Lantern Rumors

Granted, the short list of actors seems like a compilation of every white male lead who's ever starred in a movie, but there could be some truth to it. One of the most heavily rumored actors on the list was Armie Hammer. These rumors have been around for a couple months, and Hammer has neither confirmed nor denied whether there is any truth to them. He even went as far as trolling fans on Twitter back in December:

Fans began to run with the rumor, and even tried to make connections based on the fact that Geoff Johns follows Hammer on Twitter. Hammer wouldn't budge one bit either way, and seemed to revel in the attention he was getting because of the rumor. Recently though, he appears to have had a change of heart; he was finally asked whether or not he would be joining the Green Lantern Corps, and and his answer was pretty clear.

During a video interview with Comicbook.com, for his new film Call Me by Your Name at the Sundance Film Festival, Armie Hammer was quickly asked whether or not he was on the short list to play Green Lantern. Mr. Hammer responded with a quick and nuanced answer:

"I saw the reporting too, and uh, that's the first I've heard of it."

The reporter was quite taken aback by the answer, and asked Mr. Hammer if he was sure, to which he replied:

"I guess so, yeah."

It's hard to believe these comments based on the way they were answered by Mr. Hammer. Upon hearing the question, Armie Hammer became visibly nervous, as if he didn't know how to answer it. He had the same demeanor people have when they've been caught doing something they are not supposed to be doing. He was entirely too coy, and had a "deer in the headlights" look about him during the time it took him to answer that question.

If Armie Hammer is really playing Hal Jordan in the , this might be one of the longest cons every pulled off by an actor. This interview could be Hammer irrefutably dispelling all the rumors, but it could just be him waiting for Warner Bros. to give him the green (lanterns) light to tell all the fans.

Whatever the case may be, we will get the casting information when Warner Bros. feels the time is right for the announcement. Until then, DCEU fans have Wonder Woman to look forward to on June 2, 2017, and Justice League drops on November 17, 2017. Make sure you stay tuned for more news from MoviePilot!
