The Arrowverse has been off the air for a few months, but the wait to see our favorite superheroes in action once again is coming to an end. Following Supergirl's third season premiere, Arrow is getting ready for another round of protecting Star City and its citizens from the forces of evil.
The show's fifth season left us with a whole lot of questions regarding Team Arrow's future, especially after Lian Yu's massive explosion. Fans have been dying to know what's next for the show — and fortunately, The CW has decided to quench our thirst with some exciting new footage.
Get Ready, Because Oliver Queen Is About To Have Quite A Busy Year
#TheCW released a sizzle reel for Arrow Season 6. The footage gives us a much clearer picture of what to expect from Oliver's vigilante journey, and folks, he'll have a lot of problems to deal with. Check it out below:
I sure wouldn't want to be in his place! Now, there are a few storylines teased in this footage that tease a promising future for the show...
Oliver Tries To Have A Relationship With His Son
Samantha Clayton was on Lian Yu alongside Felicity and the rest of Team Arrow when the island went up in flames, and it doesn't look like she survived the explosion, as Oliver is the one taking care of their son, seemingly full time. Unfortunately for our bow-wielding hero, no amount of crimefighting could have prepared him from the tense dynamic that he'll now have with the young man.
William is clearly not comfortable with his father being the #GreenArrow, asking whether he would spend time with Ollie's civilian identity or the vigilante persona.
"Oliver being a dad is my favorite part of Season 6 thus far, and it's certainly what I've had to play the most. My first day back on Season 6 was four scenes with Jack [Moore], who plays William [...] We had four scenes [...] And he was not only equal to the task, but excelled. I left that day feeling so bullish about Season 6 and everything that we have coming up."
I'm eager to see their relationship grow as Oliver becomes a more responsible adult. While he changed a great deal after his five-year stint in a deserted island, he's never been in charge of another human being. So hopefully the show mines all the potential in him being a father figure, even though he isn't the most stable individual.
On a side note, I loved William's Flash backpack. The Scarlet Speedster's sure made a name for himself.
Tensions Are Rising Between Anatoly And Oliver
Oliver shared a special friendship with Anatoly Knyazev after their ordeal in Lian Yu. Sadly, their bond fell apart during Season 5. The two faced each other in a brutal duel, and even though Oliver decided to spare his friend, Anatoly wasn't as forgiving. Now, he's coming back full force in Season 6 as a major pain Ollie's neck.
What makes Anatoly so dangerous is that he's fully aware of Ollie's illegal activities as both a member of the Vratva and his vigilante efforts. That kind of leverage instantly turns him a dangerous guy to piss off.
The sizzle reel also shows Oliver in jail, and him fielding allegations that he's Green Arrow, so who knows? Perhaps Anatoly had a part to play in those unfortunate situations.
Keep in mind, there still seems to be some semblance of respect between one another, so I'm hoping for them to solve their differences because, I don't know about you, but I'm not much of a fan of creepy Anatoly.
Ollie Better Get Ready To Deal With A Whole Lot Of Bad Guys
As if Oliver didn't have enough to tackle this year, he'll also have to fend off a considerable amount of adversaries. Back in September, Lucifer's #LiamHall was cast as Slade Wilson's son, Joe Wilson. The character appears in the sizzle reel, and he looks to set off nothing but trouble for Team Arrow.
At one point, we see a blade –– presumably held by Joe –– pointing at #OliverQueen's eye, as Joe says, "An eye for an eye."
Adding to the troubled equation, there's Black Siren, who has her own mysterious goals. What's interesting here, though, is that Siren has proven how ruthless and cruel she can be, and she'll clearly factor in Season 6 as a fierce opponent.
However, she probably isn't as evil as we thought. At one point during this new piece of footage, the character is asked whether she's sure of what she's embarking on. Her conflicted look may be telling us there's still hope for her misguided moral compass.
Ever since our original Laurel Lance was killed, we've been wondering whether Black Siren would replace her in any way. While it doesn't seem like that will happen for now, she could have a redemption path waiting for her in the near future.
I can't tell you how excited I am to experience this new season. Going by the trailers we've gotten so far, Season 6 feels like the show going back to its original direction.
Arrow will return to our TV screens on October 12, 2017.
