Batman is easily the most iconic superhero alongside his World's Finest ally Superman. Yet even Superman has made an appearance in the Arrowverse on this season. This has lead to many fans asking:

Since they could bring on a superhero with such magnitude such as Superman, you would assume they could easily bring on a hero like the Dark Knight. He wouldn't cost a lot of money as he is a vigilante without any super powers. Many DC executives have explained that Batman is too "big of a character" and that they have the permission to introduce any character from DC Comics history... except for Batman. However, it seems like we have become one step closer as he was finally name-dropped by Supergirl herself on this week's episode of Supergirl.

Batman Exists In This Universe

In the latest episode of Supergirl, the main characters were sitting inside an alien-filled bar discussing the Guardian. Kara explained how she doesn't like vigilantes while James and Wynn (who Kara and Alex do not know are the people behind the Guardian) are defending National City's new hero. Kara went on how she doesn't trust vigilantes. Then, the world screamed in joy at what she said next:

If you know anything about Batman, you would know that Kara is 100 percent referring to the Dark Knight himself. Not only did she confirm his existence inside the Arrowverse but that Batman once worked alongside her cousin, Superman. What appears to be a simple line is actually one of, if not the biggest easter egg we have seen on Supergirl.

Does the Arrowverse Actually Need Batman?

There aren't many DC Comics fans who don't adore the Dark Knight and given that, they would do anything to see him show up in the Arrowverse. However, when you actually think about it from a logical point of view, you begin to ask yourself: Do these TV shows need Batman to show up and more importantly, should he?

Batman is one of the most iconic and beloved comic book character that has ever been produced. If he was to join the TV universe, he would over-power every single character. No longer would the attention be equally distributed among the wide array of characters but every scene Batman was featured in, he would automatically be the main focus. This would throw off the dynamic the show has tried very hard to keep and we would lose interest in any new characters the series would try and introduce.

Luke Skywalker - The Force Awakens
Luke Skywalker - The Force Awakens

Lucasfilm had to address a similar problem last year with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The producers had to figure out how they were going to implement Luke Skywalker into the movie. Originally, he had a much larger role in the blockbuster until Lucasfilm realized Luke was overpowering the other characters — especially the new ones like Rey, Finn, and Poe. After The Force Awakens, we have already fallen in love with these new characters and when Luke shows up, our love will still stay strong.

This situation can be applied to our current situation as Batman is also a strong presence. Of course, you can argue that we have already been introduced and have fallen in love with all of the DCTV characters. However, Batman will definitely be an overbearing character that will make you care less about the Flash, Green Arrow, Supergirl, and the others.

In the CW universe, Green Arrow is extremely similar to Batman of the comics. Of course, the two characters are vigilantes and we all love them dearly. However, the Green Arrow has not only taken up many of the Caped Crusader's character traits but Arrow has also used many of his storylines from the source material.

Given this, if they brought Batman into the Arrowverse, Batman would just be another vigilante that would completely over-shadow Green Arrow where the producers are trying to make him the leading face of the universe (arguably along with the Flash and Supergirl).

All in all, I would not be complaining at all if CW decided to bring Batman onto Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, or Legends of Tomorrow. However, there is some logic behind the fact that the Dark Knight has yet to make his debut.
