has come a long way since presenting half of an obscure British sketch show in the 1990s. Now, he's up there with the big guys, with his name being thrown around in association with major blockbuster movies.

Cornish, who directed 2011's Attack The Block and co-wrote the upcoming Ant-Man with , has recently been increasingly touted as the next director for Star Trek Beyond. However, Variety is now reporting that although Cornish was in talks with Paramount and Skydance, he is no longer involved with the production.

Cornish's name first emerged in early November as a contender to helm the third movie in the rebooted scifi franchise, seemingly overwriting the previously mentioned and . Indeed, J.J. Abrams, who left the franchise to direct Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens, stated that Cornish would "hopefully" be taking the helm.

Variety provides no reason for why Cornish has abandoned the project, and does not suggest who else could be the front-runner for the lucrative job. However, with Paramount wanting to kick off production in 2014, we can only assume they have additional names on their list. Well, I certainly hope so...
