Gwyneth Paltrow’s character Pepper Potts had an unexpected cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Even though she was mentioned in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War — as the CEO of Stark Industries — we haven’t seen her since the events of Iron Man 3. But she returned in Tom Holland's solo movie, and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) finally proposed to her.
Sure, the proposal was meant to give the press a distraction after Peter Parker declined to join the Avengers — but what did Pepper decide?
‘Avengers 4’ Set Photos Reveal Pepper Said 'Yes'
We already knew that Paltrow would appear in Infinity War and its sequel, and these set photos — which show her wearing a shiny ring on her left hand — appear to prove that Pepper said “yes” to Tony shortly after Peter Parker was escorted out of the new Avengers facility by Happy Hogan. Check out the photos below:
So, what's the importance of this engagement?
Tony Stark and Pepper Potts are arguably the MCU's best couple (especially since Thor and Jane Foster didn't work out). Their relationship is the most realistic — they love each other but have plenty of quarrels. Tony has made a lot of mistakes since creating the Iron Man suit (including his humiliation of Aldrich Killian, his creation of Ultron, and the introduction of the Sokovia Accords), but Pepper always gets him to eventually see the errors of his ways.
That's why it’s good to see these two back together. #TonyStark needs Pepper just as much as he needs his armor, and it’s nice to finally see Stark with a smile on his face. This relationship, even if it's occasionally rocky, has made Stark a better Iron Man ... and just a better man.
