Avengers: Infinity War is currently in the early stages of production, with the third Avengers movie reportedly filming scenes in Atlanta and set to continue through the summer. This tidbit of information may seem insignificant, seeing as we don't know what scenes are being filmed in the Peach State. However, unlike Atlanta, Infinity War's next filming location is more intriguing and could reveal a major set piece for the movie.
Rumors Suggest Infinity War Will Feature Scenes Filmed In The MCU's New York
According to a recent online rumor, #AvengersInfinityWar will move from Georgia to New York in July. The information was revealed by Twitter user @AtlantaFilming, who's known for gathering set images from movies in production.
Atlanta Filming tweeted out the spoiler-ish leak on May 23, although the tweet has since been deleted. The reason for the removal remains unclear, though it may have been in light of #Marvel Studios not wanting a major plot point of Infinity War revealed before the studio intends to let fans know about it. Then again, the information may have been inaccurate. Nevertheless, the indication of Avengers: Infinity War filming in the Big Apple is intriguing for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, any scenes being filmed in New York City will probably take place in a public space. Since the rest of Infinity War can be filmed elsewhere with the use of a green screen or studio set, it's only logical to assume a New York-based filming location is being used for scenes that take place in the #MCU's version of Manhattan. That said, there's an even more intriguing prospect to consider when we account for Infinity War filming there.
The second reason has to do with what will take place using this familiar backdrop. Reasonably speaking, scenes being filmed in New York will probably feature the #Avengers. But that explanation doesn't make sense, should the Avengers face off against Thanos somewhere in space.
But if their battle does wind up on Earth, then the final act of Infinity War could depict the Avengers fighting Thanos and his Black Order in New York City, similar to the Avengers' first major battle with the Chitauri in 2012's The Avengers.
Then again, scenes filmed in New York could wind up featuring the closing moments of Infinity War.
For all we know, the Manhattan backdrop will depict the Avengers making closing statements in light of the events of Infinity War, which seems the most plausible if we exclude speculative points. But until we hear confirmation of the filming location in New York, this is all merely speculation.
Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on May 4, 2018. If the movie does film in New York, what do you think the reason will be for those scenes? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
