1. Surprise Romero!
We jump straight in from the events of last week's premiere. Norman pays a visit to Romero in prison, and the look on Romero's face is priceless — he is shocked to discover that Norman is still alive. Cue the iconic Emma Roberts moment from #AmericanHorrorStory.
Norman, of course, toys with Romero about how his plan to have him killed failed miserably. As he leaves, Romero threatens Norman that he is coming for him when he least expects it. I, for one, cannot wait to see what happens when that moment finally arrives!
2. Better Sharpen Up On Your French
What are you suppose to do if you are pretending to be dead and are forbidden from leaving your home? Well, according to Mother, you sit down and learn French. She is interrupted when Norman arrives back home after visiting Romero, and is persuaded into a couples date night with his newest crush, Madeleine, and her husband Sam Loomis — the cheater who pretended to be Mr. David Davidson from last week's episode.
Of course, Norman doesn't bring up being with Madeleine, instead telling her about visiting Romero in prison. Norman ensures Mother that Romero is the crazy one and that in time, they will have to "deal" with him. Yeah right, Norman — Romero is the crazy one. Their conversation is interrupted by Chick. If you recall, last season he caught Norman off guard as he was fixing up Norma's dead corpse on the couch. Chick makes a business deal with Norman: Taxidermy the animals Chick brings in and sell them off. We are also informed that since Norma's death, Chick has been helping Norman around the house. Chick is definitely aware that something is up.
3. Rest In Peace, Norma Louise Bates
Kings Motel, what brings you to town? No one is home at the Bates household, so Caleb goes to check into another motel. He tells the receptionist that he is visiting his sister, Norma Bates. The man at the desk is confused and asks when was the last time Caleb spoke to Norma. Caleb says that it was about a year ago as he has been out of the country. The man breaks the news to Caleb that Norma committed suicide and that it was all over the local news. In complete disbelief, Caleb takes a trip to the cemetery and finds Norma's grave. He has a complete breakdown. This is definitely not how you would want to find out about a loved one's death!
4. Are You Gonna Be One Of Those Guys?
Date night gone so wrong. Norman is out to dinner with Madeleine, her husband Sam and her friend that she is trying to set Norman up with. As they chat, Norman throws constant sly digs at Sam (he knows he is cheating on Madeleine). Their conversation takes a turn and Norma's death is brought up. Everyone around the table is aware of Norma's death — except for Sam. Norman informs him that Norma "committed suicide." On the verge of tears, Norman runs off to the bathroom.
While trying to compose himself, guess who walks through the door? Mother! Claiming that she is "overreacting" about the fact that Norman lied about being at a business meeting, Norman grows more and more irritated. He yells at her and ushers her out the window. When the date is over, Norman sits in his car and Mother pops up from the backseat. She can't help but check out the girl Norman is so infatuated with. She even claims that Madeleine is the spitting image of her. Mother, in need of a break from Norman, heads off into a bar and spills her troubles to the bartender (remember, the bartender can only see Norman).
"She wasn't there, except in his mind." Chick is busy scribbling away in his journal when he spots Caleb. The two have a messy past, as last season Chick almost got Caleb and Dylan killed on a drug trade gone wrong. As a result, Caleb beat the crap out of him and stole his money. Chick sits at the bar next to Caleb and pesters him that he knows Caleb raped Norma. Caleb lashes out and Chick realizes that Caleb just found out about Norma. Caleb tells Chick that he knows it was Norman's fault, to which Chick agrees.
Overcome with rage, Caleb breaks his way into the Bates house screaming out for Norman to show himself. "You're not getting away!" With no luck upstairs, Caleb heads down to the basement and finds himself in front of the freezer. When he opens the door he is completely horrified to find Norma's dead body all propped up as if she were alive. Norman appears from behind dressed as Mother and knocks Caleb to the ground. Chick, having followed Caleb, appears from around the corner, and Norman (as Mother) turns around and says "Well, now you know, Chick, I'm still alive." What the actual f*ck?!
We have all been waiting for the moment where Norman goes full Mother, and let me tell you, we were not disappointed. Things are definitely heating up and we are only on Episode 2. Will Chick act like he saw nothing? Will Caleb manage to escape Mother's wrath? Where the heck is #Rihanna?
