1. Let's Just Get Rid Of The Body
We pick straight up from last week's events where Caleb was killed. Let's just take a second to remember that Mother is a complete figment of Norman’s mental state. No one but Norman can see or hear her. With that said, Norman suggests they call the sheriff as his death was technically an accident. In a quick comical conversation, Mother and Chick argue with Norman that doing so isn't the wisest choice — I mean come on, what incriminating evidence could the police possibly find in the house besides Norma's frozen body?
Chick decides that he will step up to the plate and deal with the body. We cut to the next morning, where Chick has wrapped Caleb's body in a white sheet and has laid him onto a raft with flowers and various plants surrounding the rest of his naked body. Chick then sets Caleb's body on fire and pushes him out onto the lake. Despite having multiple altercations with one another, Chick's sendoff for Caleb was rather beautiful.
2. The New Sheriff In Town
On his way to throw out some things that have gathered around the house over the years, Norman is visited by the new Sheriff in town. Sheriff Green questions Norman about a newly released inmate who had skipped out on his parole and had the Bates Motel written on a piece of paper in his belongings. Turns out that man was Jim Blackwell, the hitman sent by Romero to kill Norman. Norman — clearly breaking a sweat — claims he has no idea who Blackwell is. Sheriff Green then informs Norman that Romero has escaped prison and could possibly be on his way to the house. Norman keeps his calm, but he clearly knows what situation he is in.
3. Nothing Can Hold Him Down
Speaking of Romero! With his gunshot wound weakening his strength, Romero manages to make it to a telephone booth. He calls an ambulance and pretends that he is reporting a suspected overdose. When they arrive and attend to their "patient," Romero steals a bunch of medical supplies. With his wound all fixed up (well, as much as he could manage) Romero heads off with his gun in hand. The inevitable showdown between Romero and Norman is coming, and I for one cannot be more excited!
4. Don't Ever Do That To Me Again!
You haven't seen an early '90s silver and black Lincoln have you? Sheriff Green returns and informs Norman to keep an eye out for Jim Blackwell's car. When she leaves, Norman runs up to the house and upstairs to Mother. Mother tells Norman that she hid the car in the woods. Norman isn't satisfied with that, so he throws a coat at Mother and the two head off into the woods to hunt down the missing vehicle.
Success! When they locate the car, Norman is eager to hide it in a better spot, but Mother tells him that she threw the keys away. Norman becomes agitated and starts to go off at Mother, claiming that she wants them to get caught so she could run off with Romero. Clearly fed up with Norman, Mother starts to scream and shout to attract attention. This causes Norman to snap! He becomes aggressive and knocks her to the ground and places his hands over her mouth to stop her from screaming. Suddenly, Mother appears to be dead, but seconds later she comes back to life — what the actual f*ck is going on? Mother stands up and warns Norman to never do "that" again. It's pretty crazy when you remember that Norman is actually fighting with himself!
5. Stop These Games, Mother!
Norman decides to have a dinner date with Madeleine at her house. Before he leaves, he tells Mother about the date. Clearly unhappy with the idea of him being with another woman, Norman tells her that she doesn't need to "protect" him. In other words: Don't kill my possible girlfriend, Mother!
Madeleine greets Norman at the door and is wearing one of Norma's old dresses. Yup, Norman gave his dead mother's old dresses to the girl he likes. After their dinner, the two decide to make a cake and, let me just say, things are definitely heating up in the kitchen. They begin to passionately kiss, but Norman freaks out when he starts to see flashes of Mother killing Madeleine. So, in attempts to possibly save her life, Norman runs out and drives back home. When he arrives he screams out to Mother, but she is nowhere to be found. Norman starts to zone out.
Well, that is one way to end a dinner date. It can only be Bates Motel! This season sure is moving pretty fast and I, for one, am looking forward to every last #horror, shock and pure insanity that Bates has left for us to see. Will the finale be all about Romero vs. Norman? When will Dylan find out about Norma? Is the book Chick writing Psycho? One thing we know for sure is that next week we will finally see #Rihanna take on the role of Marion Crane!
Season 5, Episode 5 of Bates Motel airs Monday, March 20 on A&E at 10pm. Check out the promo below:
