So far 2017 is looking to be a fantastic year for comic-book movies. With major films like Justice League, Wonder Woman, Spiderman: Homecoming, Thor Ragnarok and Guardians of The Galaxy 2 all coming out this year, we're totally spoiled for choice. As well as those movies, we keep getting announcements of movies to come: Spider-Man 2 (title TBC) and Gotham City Sirens are on the way, and DC Films just added another title to the list: Batgirl.

According to Variety, the fantastic Joss Whedon has been signed on to direct, write and produce a standalone Batgirl movie for DC. Whedon's previous projects include The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Firefly and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. So yeah, getting Joss Whedon is kind of a big deal. It's going to be super interesting to see what he brings to DC, considering his long history of producing cult and colossal blockbuster hits alike.

According to the latest rumors, Lindsey Morgan (from The 100) is the frontrunner to put the cowl on as Batgirl. She left a cryptic message on Twitter that has fans speculating like there's no tomorrow! But, like everything in Hollywood, these are all rumors, so until they're confirmed, let's look at 6 other actresses who would be perfect for Batgirl!

1. Felicity Jones

My first suggestion for the role of Barbara Gordon is the very capable and bad-ass Felicity Jones. You'll recognize her from her starring role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but she has also worked on other popular movies, including The Theory of Everything, Inferno and The Amazing Spiderman 2. I think Felicity Jones really showcased how much of an action star she is in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and since then, I've wanted her to become a superhero. Who better to play than Batgirl? Felicity Jones has that perfect sense of innocence with a backbone that's necessary to play a Barbara Gordon Batgirl.

2. Shailene Woodley

Another badass actress that could play Batgirl fantastically is Shailene Woodley. You will recognize her from the Divergent franchise where she plays a Katniss Everdeen-like heroine called Tris. This franchise could prove to be an audition tape for Woodley, as it perfectly encapsulates what it means to be Batgirl; a heroic, powerful and likeable character.

3. Chloë Grace Moretz

When talking about Hollywood's biggest badasses, you can't leave out the incomparable Chloë Grace Moretz. She's proved herself time and time again, from classics like Kick-Ass where she stole the show as Hit-Girl, to her brilliant role in 2013's Carrie. It might seem like Chloë is still the young girl from Kick Ass, but she's 20 years old now, and I think she's the perfect age to take on the role of Barbara Gordon.

4. Emma Stone

Next up on our list is one of the more obvious choices for the role of Batgirl — but an obvious choice is not always a bad choice! Emma Stone has an acting range that could be fantastic for DC. We've seen her bad-ass side in films like Zombieland and Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), but we've also seen her vulnerable side in films like The Help and Easy-A. The addition of another -winning actor to DC's roster could really help to revitalize the Expanded Universe. She would be another example of an actor going from Marvel to DC; you'll remember she played Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spiderman 2.

Another great reason to get Emma Stone on board with the movie would be the fact that she's worked with J.K. Simmons already before on La La Land. So that pre-existing chemistry will be great for the father-daughter relationship that we'll see in Batgirl.

5. Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood quickly became one of my favorite actresses ever after starring role in HBO's hit series, Westworld. This sci-fi/western epic showcased Evan Rachel Wood as the new bad-ass in town, and if you watch Westworld, then you know why she'd be a fantastic choice for Barbara Gordon. On the big screen, Evan Rachel Wood has had a handful of major roles, including turns in The Wrestler and The Ides of March. I think Batgirl could be the perfect next step for her, seeing as Westworld Season 2 is at least another year away.

6. Shannon Purser

Last but not least on our fan-cast for Barbara Gordon is the up-and-coming actress Shannon Purser. If you're a Stranger Things fan, then you'll certainly know Shannon as one of the show's most beloved characters, Barb. Her quirky personality and by-the-book attitude would certainly come in handy for playing Batgirl. I'm sure you can already see the memes that will be created if Shannon gets cast as Batgirl — for one, people will henceforth call Batgirl Barb Gordon (which I'm OK with).

See where Barb's demise ranked in our most emotional death scenes of 2016:

It's always really hard to predict who a studio will cast for a high-profile superhero, but I really hope DC pick one of the six on this list. If I could choose one, it would have to be down between Emma Stone and Felicity Jones purely I think they fit Barbara Gordon the most out of anybody on this list.

I'd love to know who you guys want in the role of Batgirl, let me know who you want to see in DC's upcoming movie in the comments below!
