There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Ben Affleck takes a lot of punishment. For a guy with 25 years of acting under his belt, played a number of roles across multiple genres, and most recently, portrayed beloved comic book hero in the upcoming , Affleck still has to deal with more than his fair share of mockery and scathing reviews. (we all saw "Sad Affleck," right?)

Considering just how much has achieved in his career, here are the actor/director's best moments — because everyone needs a break every now and then.

5. 'Good Will Hunting'

The fact that Affleck was only 25 when Good Will Hunting was released makes his work on the 1997 drama all the more impressive. Ben co-wrote the film with real-life pal Matt Damon (who starred in the titular role) as well as playing supporting character "Chuckie." All this, plus the film bagged a "Best Original Screenplay" Oscar, too. Good work, Ben!

4. 'Chasing Amy'

While not everyone's favorite Affleck film, Kevin Smith's Chasing Amy is a genuinely original romantic comedy that explores gender roles, sexual politics and comic books, and packaged together with an impressive goatee from the leading man. This is easily one of Affleck's bests movies.

3. 'Argo'

Directing, producing and starring in this 2012 historical drama earned Affleck a myriad of awards and nominations, including a "Best Picture" win at the 2013 Oscars. Argo showed the world that he really was miles away from career-low depths of 2004's Gigli.

2. 'Gone Girl'

Affleck's genuinely unsettling portrayal of a man accused of murdering his wife in David Fincher's psychological thriller Gone Girl is undoubtedly one of the actor's best performances. Fincher apparently cast the actor after googling pictures of his "awkward smile." Good choice, Dave, he creeped us out spectacularly.

1. 'Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice'

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice divided people like no other comic book movie upon its release, and while it certainly wasn't perfect (six Razzie nominations? C'mon!) many agreed that Affleck's portrayal of Bruce Wayne/Batman was one of the highlights of the film. Seeing an older, more paranoid Batman was a fresh take on the hero in terms of live-action cinema, and I think we can all agree that that armor is nothing but cool.

So there we have it — the man himself's best moments. With a long career like Affleck's, there are more great films than just the ones on this list, and with crossed fingers we await Justice League later this year. Let's all give Ben Affleck a break — he is Batman, after all.
