Like a boyfriend who's been engaged to his fiancé for a solid few years but refuses to commit to an actual ceremony, is still dancing around the details of his solo movie, The Batman, claiming in a new interview that there's a chance the film won't get made at all; even though the whole world knows the Batfleck will make it down the aisle eventually.

If you haven't been following this fairly ridiculous saga thus far, it's essentially defined by a whole lot of flip-flopping from Affleck over whether or not his solo Batventure will get made, whether or not he'll direct, and whether or not a script exists, even as news leaks out about casting announcements (Joe Manganiello confirmed for , for instance) and shooting dates.

The last we'd heard, courtesy of Manganiello, was that The Batman was very much on and would begin shooting in the first half of 2017, but in a new interview with The Guardian, Affleck seems to contradict that by offering the vague statement:

"That’s the idea [that I'll direct]. But it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it."

It's hard to know what to make of that — if The Batman is really filming before summer, pre-production be underway imminently, and a script would have to be finished. But previous stories suggested Affleck and Geoff Johns had been working on a script for over a year, so "there's no script" sounds dubious. Then again, why lie?

Perhaps only when he's actually wearing his cowl and running around Gotham tearing shit up will Affleck admit that his movie is actually happening. Until then, you might wanna hold off on buying a suit for that wedding, because this groom is one very confused man.

Is Ben Affleck telling the truth about The Batman, or trying to throw us off the scent for mysterious reasons?
