In keeping with the steady stream of bonus videos and behind-the-scenes clips we've been showcasing in the past few weeks in anticipation of the release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, we now present a great little featurette focusing on the humble abode of Beorn, the bear-loving skinchanger. A huge favorite in Tolkien fandom, the character, who didn't appear in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, will now be portrayed by .
Although we don't get a first look at Persbrandt in his costume, the short clip does show us the magnificent set built in extra-large dimensions representing Beorn's home. We get the opinion of many different members of the cast and crew themselves, and there's one conclusion we can draw from all of them: it was tons and tons of fun shooting there. The people at the visual department really outdid themselves, as the elaborate carvings and woodwork can attest. Also of interest is the fact that, for the first time, the Dwarves didn't trash the place, which comes to show how much respect the enormous Beorn commands (the Erebor exiles had previously made quite the mess at Bilbo's table and at the Rivendell banquet). All in all, a quaint little video to keep you entertained until the real deal comes out in a month. Enjoy!
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug premieres on December 13th.
