Much like the dehydrated terrain of an Albuquerque desert, a TV spin-off is tricky to navigate. Especially when the original show in question is one of the most acclaimed and adored of its generation, Breaking Bad, the drug-manufacturing story of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.
Better Call Saul — the breakaway show named after the catchphrase of Breaking Bad's comical-yet-nuanced character — has navigated its way to becoming a show that is well-respected in its own right. So much so, Bob Odenkirk's portrayal of James "Jimmy" McGill will return this spring for a third season.
It's testament to the quality of writing and direction — executed by impressive performances from the cast — that after two seasons, the criminal lawyer still hasn't transformed into the titular alter ego, the shady smooth talker who advises Walter White — Saul Goodman. However, the first glimpse at Season 3 suggests that could soon change. Take a look below.
First Footage From 'Better Call Saul' Season 3
Jimmy McGill is a complex character, perfectly portrayed by #BobOdenkirk, whose mix of smugness, vulnerability and morally questionable nature make him a compelling leading man that you can't help but root for. Throughout the first two seasons, much of McGill's adversity has come in the form of his brother, Chuck (Michael McKean).

The borderline sinister sibling rivalry reached an agonizing conclusion, when Chuck secretly recorded a confession from Jimmy, who admitted he tampered with the Mesa Verde files, so that he and Kim would win them back as a client. Presumably, this'll be the reason Jimmy finds himself in jail.
Will 'Better Call Saul' Season 3 Include Walter Or Jesse?
The question is, after finding himself behind bars, what next for Jimmy? Although Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have the luxury of taking their time, fans will expect the pace to step up, joining the present narrative to the #BreakingBad era and beyond. It'll be interesting to see if the show focuses on those years, especially if it opens to door to cameos.
Although the show features a number of Breaking Bad characters, including the brilliantly stoic Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a brief appearance from Tuco and allusions to Gus Fring's involvement, #BetterCallSaul Season 3 is the opportunity to pull out the big guns — cameos from Bryan Cranston or Aaron Paul, anyone?
Better Call Saul Season 3 will return in spring 2017 on AMC.
