After the release of the highly anticipated motion picture Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, many fans are speculating about how big the future successes of the #StarWars anthology films can truly be. With Rogue One accumulating $1.034 billion in the box office, one can only ponder the absolute potential of these spin-offs with way more to come. Rogue One showed a newer perspective on the galaxy far, far, away. The film told a story that gave us a better understanding on how one of the biggest events in the Star Wars universe came to be: the destruction of the Death Star.
Though, that's not the end of it. Hold on to your horses because we're about to get a whole lot more films between the storylines of Episode III and Episode IV. Not only bringing back some of our favorite characters but also answering a plethora of unanswered questions: What really happened to Obi-Wan after Order 66 was executed? How did Han Solo meet Chewbacca? The answer to one of those questions may be revealed next year. Seems like a pretty long time, but it'll be worth it because we're about to see the early days of our favorite space cowboy — Han Solo!
Not too many details have been revealed about the upcoming film, other than some casting details. As many know, #AldenEhrenreich was the actor picked for the role of the young Captain Solo. Lando Calrissian will also be making an appearance, portrayed by actor/artist #DonaldGlover. The hype is only beginning to grow for this upcoming film.
Is Donald Glover Fit For Lando's 'Cool'?
On the topic of Donald Glover's Lando, the recent photo above has been trending like crazy around the internet. If you haven't realized yet, that's Billy Dee Williams (former Lando Calrissian) having lunch with his younger self, Donald Glover. When Williams was asked about how the lunch went, all seemed well — he's highly in favor of the casting choice. Donald Glover asked the veteran Star Wars actor all the basic questions on the directions he should take when portraying this classic character.
Williams Shares Lando's Unique Traits
Those that remember Lando can't forget this guy's stride; the glorified gambler had a way with his words. Though, why do fans praise this character so much, even after his iconic betrayal on Cloud City? Even though he did redeem himself, Billy Dee Williams told Hollywood Reporter that Lando is an "eclectic" character; that's what makes him so cool. With Donald Glover portraying the young Lando, can he portray this trait on-screen? When asked if Williams gave Glover any pointers on being "cool," this is what he had to say:
"Well, nobody’s as cool as me. (Laughs.) That’s a tough way to go. No, I’m only joking. Donald is eclectic, I think that’s really important particularly for the character of Lando. He is particularly eclectic in the way he approaches his art. When I talked to him I really got the sense of him being a worldly person."
Williams expressed that with Donald Glover being an eclectic person — portraying a character that is mainly meant to be eclectic — it would be really valuable in his work for the production of the film. Williams has high hopes for Donald Glover's appearance in the Star Wars universe as one of the iconic trilogy characters. There really is no other better person to pilot the Millennium Falcon (that isn't Han Solo) than Lando Calrissian!
