When we all saw Laurel Lance alive and well in the midseason finale of Arrow, fans were thrilled that the Black Canary was back. However, over the Christmas break a new trailer alluded to the possibility that the returning face was not our Laurel, suggesting that while that Katie Cassidy has returned to the show, she will be portraying Laurel's evil Earth-2 doppelgänger — Black Siren. And now, The CW have released a brand new extended Season 5 trailer which confirms this.
Check out the brand new trailer below:
While this new trailer covers much of the same ground as the previous one, it's the Siren reveal and Prometheus material that really stands out here. So, if you're ready, let's take a look at what we learn from the trailer, and what impact it could have on the show. Be warned, the results might be quite deafening.
Black Siren Has Come To Star City
We really hoped that the Arrow producers had listened to the fans and corrected their mistake from last season, but alas it seems that Laurel Lance is still currently dead. And that can only mean one thing — Black Siren has arrived in Star City. Despite her Oscar-worthy performance, she needs an a convincing reason for Laurel's sudden resurrection for which she seemingly attributes to time travel.
This is not the most far-fetched thing in the world — after all, we were hoping that Laurel's sister Sara would travel through time on #LegendsOfTomorrow and save her. Thus, it seems Black Siren uses our hopes against us, and deceives Oliver with one of the many methods that fans wanted the show to use to revive Laurel. And if you're still not convinced that it's Black Siren, then look at the following images.
Team Arrow Imprisons Her & She Escapes
In a few blink-and-you'll-miss-them moments, it becomes clear that Black Siren is somehow found out by the team and imprisoned in the bunker/"Arrow-cave" by the team. There is a moment in the trailer where Felicity is standing in front of the bunker's cage, and if you look closely at the cage, you can see the fully costumed Black Siren, once again sporting her trademark brown hair.
However, her imprisonment doesn't last long. She somehow escaped S.T.A.R. Labs' prison after her appearance on #TheFlash last season, and now if you look closely at the trailer, you can see her literally scream her way out of the cage. It truly seems that you can't keep a good metahuman down.

Black Siren Destroys The Laurel Statue
This season has been all about honoring the Black Canary's legacy — something that would have been much easier for Arrow to achieve had they not killed her off in the first place. And Oliver thought the best way to do this would be to erect a statue in her honor. However, it seems Black Siren has other plans for Laurel Lance's legacy.
From snippets of the trailer we can see a fight breaking out on the pier as Green Arrow, Wild Dog and Mr. Terrific attempt to take down Black Siren. And if you once again look closely at the shot of Wild Dog, you can see Green Arrow and the fully costumed Black Siren facing off on the pier.
However, it seems that the fight descends into chaos as Black Siren uses her metahuman Canary Cry to take down the team, and inadvertently ends up destroying the memorial statue of Laurel. Will this send Oliver into a fit of rage? Or is it the symbolic way of the show telling us that Black Siren is destined to become the next Black Canary? Let's hope it's the latter.
Prometheus Is Tormenting Oliver
The other major storyline featured in the trailer revolves around Oliver's major mistake in the midseason finale when he accidentally killed Detective Billy Malone, mistaking him for Prometheus. To follow that up, it seems Prometheus is ready to play some more mind games with Oliver, as the Green Arrow himself comments that the villainous archer is proving to him that he will destroy himself and everyone close to him.
While we already know that there will be another physical battle between the two, it seems that Prometheus ambushes Oliver and Felicity which leads to the confrontation. Will the Green Arrow finally be able to stop the masked big bad, or will Prometheus' mind games defeat Oliver Queen once and for all? Moreover, is Prometheus the one responsible for freeing Black Siren?
So with Arrow set to return to our #TV screens very soon, it seems like the conniving Black Siren has pulled the wool over all our favorite Star City #superheroes' eyes. Even though it's disappointing that we have yet to see the real Black Canary return, seeing Katie Cassidy portray her evil doppelgänger is something I can't wait to see as Arrow has sorely missed her presence.
Moreover, with the epic trailer, it's clear to see why we're all excited for Arrow's return. It looks like the show will continue to get better as the rivalry between Green Arrow and Prometheus comes to a head, and Black Siren returns — hopefully we'll see a lot more of her in the future.
Arrow returns to The CW on Wednesday January 25, 2017.
